Finally got my new EMP on Friday. Have been trying to decide if I really wanted one for about a month now. Sure am glad I got it.
First let me say that my XD9 SC was my favorite gun, especially for concealed carry. It went with me 2 weeks ago when we rode our triked motorcycle to Montana. Never left my side the whole week. But favored status is about to change. I had heard stories of the EMP having a break in period of about 100 rounds, so went to the range this morning to break her in. Shot 100 rounds of WWB, no problems encountered. I was expecting a couple of FTF or FTE, based upon what I had read. Never happened. All targets were set a 7 yards. First few shots were all over the target. Trigger has a different feel than the XD. IMO, the EMP has, for lack of a better term, a crisper, less mushy feel. After I got used to that, I was getting some "OK" groupings, but they were still low, close to the bottom of the 8 ring. Part of my problem was the front sight. I kept losing the front sight. Even with the Tritium sights, the front seemed to fade out and blend into the black background on the target. By forcing myself to use both eyes and concentrating on the front sight pointing at center mass on the target, I started getting the groupings pulled into the 9 and 10 rings. I consider myself to me a less than average shooter, never having scores I could brag about, but today was different. After fifty rounds, I was consistently placing each magazine of nine rounds within the 9 ring at 7 yards. After my 100 rounds, I asked the range officer to witness my 30 rounds to qualify to have the EMP added to my CCW. In Nevada you have to qualify with each specific weapon you plan to carry, so each time you get a new gun, you need to certify with that weapon, and can't carry it until it has been added to the list that is on the back of your CCW. I shot my 30 rounds, 1 in the 8 ring, 12 in the 9, and 10 in the 10, with all but the one in the 8 ring being tighly grouped at about the 9 o'clock position. Probably the best I have ever shot. Sorry this post is so long, but I think I have finally found my carry weapon. Now the journey to find the ultimate holster.

I just love stories with happy endings! Thanks for the informative post. Good luck with that new pistol.

good stuff -- found the same on my EMP, which replaced my XD9SC. Ultimately carry holster? Crossbreed SuperTuck Deluxe, with extra holes for adjustability and wear as AIWB carry. About the most concealable position and 9mm gun you'll every carry short of a pocket gun or possibly a Kahr. Love my EMP. The trigger is different than XD no doubt. whenver I switch back and forth between guns, takes me a couple of mags to get reacclimated. Also, I found I had to put in more finger on the trigger to get the straight press-back on that 1911 style to prevent the left-side groupings. Try that out.

Thats great, I think my next carry gun will be a small 1911 based 9mm.

I love what I see in the EMP, but I can't seem to get past $1000 for a 9mm semi-auto. If it were cheaper I'd be all over it.
Then again, with more reviews like this I might have to change my mind |

Congrats on the purchase. The EMP is a AWESOME little gun. I can't wait to get another one.

Congrats.
The thing about the front sight that makes it harder to see is that there is no white ring around the tritium - like trijicon novks. I once has a TRP from springfield. I finally has to paint over the tritium because I couldn't see the dots at my indoor range. |

Glad to hear the positive review. I'm planning on picking up a sub-compact 9mm 1911 before the year is out. The EMP is on my list of pistols to check out as well as the Kimber Ultra Aegis, and the Para Carry9.

Cool, let us know how you're liking it...
Just before reading this post, I happened to pick up the latest issue of American Handgunner where they have a feature on it... Man, that little piece is NICE!!! A bit pricey, but the build quality looks spectacular. Enjoy it & don't forget to post some pictures! |
