1911 Torture Tests...

I seem to recall someone posting a link to a page with a set of four 1911's was run through a nice series of torture tests...

They'd fire 100 rounds from each one, then subject it to another trial. Being swished in mud and fired while under water come to mind....

Does anyone remember the link for this? I can't find it, and the search isn't really helping...

WWII, winter in Germany, mud, rain, ocean, I think the torture of the 1911 is very well documented. After all, its still being used today, 60+ years later.

Yeah i remember that article, I think they used a cheap Rock Island Armory, a kimber, a Wilson Combat and another one...maybe a SA. Basically they all performed great with no malfunctions. Burried in muddy water, sandy boxes, the basic torture tests...

Poor little guns, they've been abused so much... someone better call children's services. I volunteer my house for foster care...

What I found interesting, was that the "high end" 1911's with the tight tolerences held up just as good as the less expensve ones through all the dirt & grind. I'd always heard that the tighter the tolerences usually would have more problems with dirt & grime, because there isn't much "play" in the parts. Although, I sure wouldn't want to put my Dan Wesson 1911 through these tests...

yah seems to be some bs. Granted when they're new I've experienced a greater instance of failure to feed with more expensive 1911's than with cheaper loose ones.

I'm still at a loss for understanding what this test proves that the last century (nearly a full century) of the gun's life-time hasn't already exhibited.

The 1911 is, after all, mankind's greatest accomplishment.
