I do not know about STI, but Baer puts 500 rounds through each gun they build before it goes out the door. You might ask them [STI] if they do this. If not let it get a few 100 rounds down the pipe.

Best of luck!

I'm not busting on anyone here, but if the STI is "top notch"....wouldn't it already have been polished?
350 rds. is plenty, send it back to them and let them straighten it out.
Let your dealer pay the freight.
They didn't have to spend $150 to see if your money was any good.

My STI ran from day one but guns that are built very tight, do require some breakin before they should be considered reliable. Im not saying that they will all malfunction until they are broke in but I wouldnt trust ANY gun until its broke in.

Your typical over the counter gun is built loose and its done so because its cheaper to build that way, less customer service issues, more reliable when abused, etc...

NO. Their barrels (and other pieces) are first rate, but I don't think anybody polishes a ramp and throat the way we do when we want them mirror smooth. The inside throat usually has very fine rotary milling lines from the cutter which are easy to polish out.

The other thing is that match grade barrels are intentionally cut "dead tight" to spec to maximize accuracy, and may be a shade tight when new depending on ammo size tolerance.

This is true... I had to change to an undersize die in .40 in order to get some brass to feed into my custom STI, the chamber is that tight. Whatever dont fit into the that gun will always chamber into my Sig or XD.

I wouldn't worry about it too much right now if it's a brand spanking new gun. 1911's often jam and fail to feed the first time out.

My Springfield took about 500 rounds to feed everything I put in her. Same for my buddy's Para.

Often happens when people buy a new gun at the club and get play with it before they get their papers to take her home.

Once it's broken in and has a higher round count, I'm sure you'll be more than happy with it. STI is one of the better brands, so you shouldn't have to worry.

My dad bought a new SIG GSR 1911... it did the same thing yours is doing... they told us to put 2000 rounds through it to make sure it was broken in... kept hanging up at 1000 rounds so they said send it in... they said that they polished the feed ramp, and sent it back... still hung up atleast once in every mag... sent it back after another couple hundred rounds... they sent it back saying that there was nothing wrong with the gun... we were a couple hundred rounds short of 2000 when the slide/breech face cracked and the extractor broke off... we sent it back, they called and said that it couldn't be repaired and that they had a board meeting about it and decided to send him another one with a few upgrades and 6 extra mags to make up for the trouble. Scott Springer of Springer precision on this site knows the story...

New gun seems to be running fine... around 500 rounds with ony 1 failure to feed and that was within the first 50 rounds...

aparently his was built VERY out of spec...

Even my Wilson CQB (a custom pistol) was reliable from round 1. I put 2000 rounds through it to break it in like they said but I had no malfunctions during that time and did not clean in on at all during that time. Sounds to me like he may need to try different ammo or send the gun in. Not all ball ammo is created equal.

the first time i shot my new sti was in a uspsa match and it ran flawless and at this point i have 1100 rounds threw it. flawlessly. but i have been using wilson 47ds and chip mcormick power mags since day one. and the first 500 rounds were 230 factory i wa nna say amreican eagle. and awhile ago i ran corbon 230 grain +p hollow points. and i figure if it will cycle those ti will cycle everyting. you can almost take shots out of that hollow point. but ive talked to sti about other guns and they have great customer service. one of the few places left you call and get a person to talk to.
