Springfield GI 5" 45SS Package
I love the looks of this gun. Don't know much about it so I've come to you guys for info. What are the pros and cons of this gun? It is available at budsgunshop.com for $482 right now, is that a pretty fair price? Thanks in advance!

My local sells them for $511.33, so that sounds like a good price to me. Don't have any experience with GI's, but I hear they're pretty decent.

I bought my stainless GI for about 439 bucks...but that was four years ago. Your price sounds very good, considering the price of stainless steel these days.
Great pistols, if you ask me. Alot less troublesome than my more fawned over and more expensive Colt 1911s if the truth is to be told! - Brickboy240

What types of safety features does it have?

Typical 1911 safeties. Thumb safety and grip safety.
Grip safety - on back strap, similar to XD Thumb safety - on the bottom left of the slide (looking at back of gun) |

Bought one in June
Got mine for $509, Memorial Day (this year).
Feels great in the hand, really good looking, accurate, very good fit, and I will say, very well made, but... After about 120 rounds I noticed the Plunger Tube coming loose, the last round in any mag would not fire, and the trigger pull and an ever so slight catch just before the release. Some others are having plunger tubes coming off (one of the weak areas of the 1911). So reluctently I sent it back less than week after ownership. It was gone for about two weeks. They resteaked the plunger tube, fixed the trigger issue and made a decent attemp to remedy the last round problem. With the "last round" problem I have replaced with an 18.5 lb. Wolff spring. I have not tested yet, but it should fix that issue. Another thing to look for is the extractor, apparently some were not pinned but rather "lock-tighted". Other than my experience you will have a very decent 1911 for upgrading or just to enjoy shooting. Also, it has all the modern safeties, including the firing pin safety. Spring Field has one the the best customer service departments and that alone is worth my business.

Any guns in this same price range that you would suggest over the Springfield GI 45? I do want a SS, love that look. Also, I wouldn't mind sticking with Springfield just because of their customer service and warranty.

The best safety is the one between your ears...remember that. Learn the features of the 1911 before you go carrying it around. Its not all that daunting, but every bit of knowledge helps.
I'd say go for it. My stainless GI was perfect from day one. The only problem I ever had with mine is the fact that it does not like alloy cased ammo and will fail to eject a casing once every mag or two. Not a big problem because I do not shoot Blazer alloy cased ammo very often (I let the SIG P220 eat the rest of the alloy Blazers up - it eats everything). I have also found that other 1911s do not like alloy cased ammo, either. A smith told me the lighter alloy cases might mess with the timing of the action. With brass cased ammo...my GI has been 100%. - Brickboy240
