I'm sure all the above mentioned clones are ok but if it were me...I'd look for a nice used Colt XSE or 1991
I have a Llama and a Norinco so I'm not a total Colt snob Mike |

I have to agree. I have bought several Colts for under 600 bucks. My latest was last year - a very nice 1973 Combat Commanderin satin nickle. Why buy a MIM ridden foreign made 1911 when for the same money, you can have the genuine article?
On the Spartan magazine issue. I have notices alot of compaints on the 1911 forums about weak plunger springs in the RIA 1911s. Once the guys replace the weak plunger spring, the slide stop WILL hold the slie back after the last round. Since the Spartan is made by the same people (Armscorp) you might look into swapping the plunger spring for a Wolff extra power unit. I ran into a lazy plunger spring on my 1973 Combat Commander, The slide would not lock back on every Wilson and Wolff mag I tried an my Colt mags with new Wolff springs. It drove me nuts. I talked with a local smith (Teddy Jacobsen....of "Actions by T" fame) and he told me to immediately leave the magazines alone and replace the plunger spring before I did anything else. Turns out, he was 100% correct. I ordered a Wolff extra power plunger spring and the problem went away entirely and has never reared its ugly head agian. The old Colt is 100% nowdays. Check and replace your plunger spring. If your Wilson mags run 100% in other guns...my money is on a lazy plunger spring. - Brickboy240

I recently took a Colt in on trade. The total deal was well under 200 bucks of my time/money for getting it and fixing it up into running shape. It shoots EXCELLENTLY now.
The older stuff is out there, and if you are willing to invest a bit of 'elbow grease' and are willing to spend a bit of time with your 'ear to the ground', good forged guns of the past can be found and turned into top notch shooters for much less money than you might think. |

Indy has been shooting a Spartan and he likes it. It works well and shoots good. yoiu can tell it's not a ground up STI but for $ you can't ask for more.
