Gunsmith help please...
I bought an extended mag release button for my Kimber Warrior, but I apparently do not have the right size tool to remove the stock one. Among all of my allen wrenches, I somehow don't have one that fits. My 1.5 mm is too small, my 2mm too big. I have never heard of a 1.75 mm so I figure it is not metric. Good enough, try out the rest of the allens I have (unfortunately not marked) and nothing fits. When I changed out my Armscor button, I had the right size.
So, my question is this: Does Kimber use a funky size that is only found in gunsmith tool kits? My toolset is extensive, so I am a little shocked that I don't have the size. Did Kimber do this to get people to buy a Kimber gunsmithing toolset? I don't even know if one exists.... that will be my next stop after this post, but I wanted to get this in here in case any of you guys have already been through this. Thanks!

Isn't Kimber an American made gun? If so, try some standard allen sizes

Roger that. If it ain't GI Blueprint, I don't have an answer other than to email the manufacturer and just ask them what size it takes.

I went and pulled up some pictures of that side of the gun. I could be mistaken, but the screw that has to be turned, to release the mag release button, almost looks like a Torx head screw. If so, that's why your allen head wrenches wont work.

you know, i wondered that. my eyes arent all that good, but i thought it might be a torx. i tried torx above and below the size of the hole. i wonder if it is a special order size, like in between standard sizes.

It's not clear if this is understood or not.
The allen/torx screw is NOT to provide removal of the stock mag release. It is there only to turn the mag release during disassembly. This allows the unit to "unlock" from the frame. Depress mag release and use anthing you can to rotate that allen/torx screw until the locking lug is free of the frame. Attempting to "unscrew" it will only strip it.

KnightHawk,
Thanks so much. Once I did as you said, I could see exactly what you were talking about and I do remember doing that last time with my Armscor. Thanks for reminding me! I have my button installed now. Pics are in the gallery...
