Coonan .357 magnum

Posting this here because it a mod 1911 variant.

Have 1 of these and last week when shooting it I was having problems with the empties not ejecting. They didn't stovepipe but hung up in line with the barrel.

I was firing some mid power level fully jacketed reloads. They work fine in my revolvers and lever action. They have worked fine in the Coonan in the past.

I know the 1911 has an extractor and it looks to be in good shape. Is there an ejector as well? I sure don't see one in there.

Any ideas or things I should look at?

Thanks,

what types of other loads have you shot in it ? was that the only ammo youve tried?does the gun need a good cleaning? check your magazine too as that could be a problem if its a bad mag.

I'll go out today and try out some different loads. I bought a couple boxes of factory ammo to try. I'll also try my other mags with my reloads.

It is clean.

Thanks,

maybe a little gun grease on the rails to let it cycle better? My HK fails like this only when the slide gets dry.

I've talked with a couple smiths about the coonans and they all have said that .357 is a bitch to get to work in a semi-auto. If you're getting some gunk build up in the chamber it would drag enough on extraction to not eject. Clean it, try some different rounds, report back please

It doesn't like the reloads, worked just fine with some Remington JSPs and WWB JHPs.

good to hear it's not the gun, sounds like the only thing you need is a new recipe.
