removing firing pin block from taurus 1911
my question is if its posible to remove the firing pin block and the upper and lower levers of the frame. Brownell's sells a part called "frame slot filler", which takes up the space of the upper and lower levers. But I dont knoe if the exractor will function properly if the plunger/spring assembly is removed

It will.. Buy the filler, put it in the frame, and you are good to go...
Might I ask why you want to remove it?? There is a kit in the midwayusa 30 catalog that reduces the trigger pull 1-2 pounds and still retains the safety features.. |

I don't own the Taurus, but a friend of mine bought one the other day and it's pretty hard removing the firing pin and extractor for cleaning. I have a springfield loaded which doesn't have anything like that. On the other hand, with practice disassembling a 80 series slide could get easier. The most interesting thing is that the trigger pull of the taurus is much better than the trigger pull of my springer

I have an 80 series colt, and a RIA with no firing pin block.. The 80 is easier to disassemble..
You push in the firing pin block with one hand, and push the firing pin way up in the channel with the other... Let go of the block and it holds the pin back for you to pull the blocking plate out.. Then you push in the block again, the firing pin will fall out.. Turn the slide over and dump the firing pin block and spring out, then pull the extractor.. Totally stripped slide... Reinstall is the exact oposite.. The block will hold the pin back so you can just drop the plate back in.. Its so simple.. |

Here you go, it should be the same as colts:
http://www.freepatriot.com/removeseries80.php Get this shim and put it in in place of the series 80 stuff: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/sto...AME+SLOT+BLANK It will give you about a 1 lb lighter trigger, the cheapest trigger job you can get. I recommend getting a stone from brownells at the same time and smooth out the top and bottom of the trigger, the channel, the side of this shim, hanner, sear and pins that hold them in. Just a polish, nothing more. You will be smiling from ear to ear the next time you shoot it at the feel and all on the cheap. I know this didn't answer your question and I just added it for anyone's info, so the answer is that removing it will have no effect whatsoever on the extractor or anything else. You don't even have to worry about changing the firing pin or anything. No effect except to lower the weight on the trigger pull giving you about a pound lighter trigger. I also put a glob of slide glide, or any grease would work, on the side of the shim that goes against the frame to hold it in place. The shim doesn't move it just holds it in place during reassembly.
