I have been wanting a 1911 for some time to get me more used to the single action scene. I bounced between some lower end ones and some mid range production 1911's. I finally saw a Taurus PT-1911 and it looked ok. I saw a Springer TRP and it looked fantasic.
I just moved a to Olympia Washington a few days ago. I was looking for some gravel to do some minor landscaping around the new house. Stopped at a place that looked like they sold dirt and gravel but upon entering the building - guns. A gun showroom for Olympic Arms. I knew they were close but I did not know they were like 4 miles up the road from me. I was given a free tour of the factory. Lots of CNC - thousands of barrels - lowers for AR's, etc. Well after the tour I told them I had to make a purchase of something cause we are now neighbors. I put a 1911 on order on the spot. They are on back order as they are filling some "contacts", commemortives, and sheriff duty guns in the area. It is nice to have a gun manufacture just down the road and I can't wait to receive my first 1911 from the factory. Digging for a picture of the 4 inch Cohort but do not have a pic that will cut a paste. |

Wow your johnnie on the spot. What price did they give you? I would wear out my welcome if that was my situation and they were that close to me...congrats.

$820
That is $820 after tax was calculated in. Pretty good for a semi custom stainless Commander sized 1911.
I have a question for some of the old timers or experianced 1911'ers. Mine (on order) has a "bushingless" bull barrel. How are those in the old Detonics style? Last edited by exexpat93; 05-26-2007 at 07:30 PM. Reason: Adding |

Sweet looking gun. Tried to post an image for you earlier but like you could not get the image location to post by.

I wondered about that too ...
The front groove finger strap in pictures seems like it would be ackward but it really makes for a firm grip. I forget what other manufacturer had that feature also besides maybe a Essex, Safari (Olympic bought them), Caspian, or Detonics at one point.
The beaver tail in the back is very comfortable also. Now that you mentioned it - wondering how that will feel while in CCW. Should not be a problem. Another feature not apparent in the pictures online is that there is a slight "melt" to some of the sharper edges you do not see often on production guns. That is the thing with 1911's - there are an unlimited amount of custom parts out there to make yours - yours. Truth be told I was not looking at a stainless pistol before this. I mostly go for tactical black or greys. Nothing against them just been a long time since I had either a stainless or nickel pistol. This model also does not have the ambi safety - not that I need one being right handed. No memory pad on the lemon squeezer safety either. As soon as it is ready ... in a few months I'll give a full report. They are that far behind and the reason you do not see many in shops. The ones I handled at Olympic seemed notchy tight and those were the ones that had been shot a lot and handled for many years. I remember my Navy quarterdeck watch 1911's (WWII vintage) rattled a lot they were so loose. Still functioned but they had been through the wringer. Waiting sucks but I think this is going to be worth it. Last edited by exexpat93; 05-26-2007 at 10:27 PM. Reason: Adding |
