Colt 1911 WW1 Replica

Does anyone have this piece? I thought this was a one off special edition but it is in their catalogue.

I was wondering how it compares to the Springfield GI basic model.
How reliable is it?
Does it feed everything or is it picky with ammo?
Plastic parts?
How are the very basic sights?
70 Series Internals? Other series internals?
Fit and finish.

The one I saw looked sweet but it was locked up under glass and they would only take it out if I was buying.

It didn't sell very well because the Springer Mil-Spec and other replica style 1911s are so cheaply priced.

They are series WWI internals.

That means yes to the series 70 stuff. Unless you were looking into a collector piece or a safe queen never to be shot it is not desirable.

That is what it was for. A colector piece. Get a RIA 1911 or a Springer. Maybe even a Auto Ordnance basic 1911. I have heard very good things about the RIA pistol.

The Hi Standard 1911 is also good. Stock GI, except it will take any ammo, including semi-wadcutters. And, it is cheap, as 1911s go.

No, no, no. They are not the same. The Colt is essentially a reissue of the original item. Original finish. Exceptional quality barrels, forged or barstock internals, triggers in the 3.5 pound range. Mike Cumpston is a gunwriter, a fine and honest man, and a heck of a good shot. Here's a real shooting review of a Colt WWI that he wrote.

Even Colts entry-level 1911's have outstanding barrels. None of which you will get from a Springfield, and I know a little something about this. I have rebuilt enough of them. I am currently rebuilding a Springfield 'Loaded Fullsize Black Stainless' for a LE friend, that came with the 2-piece barrel and would barely group 4" at 25 yards. The last basic Colt GM I shot would shoot better than that at 50- with the stock bushing.

I have also rebuilt several other knock-offs including the Auto Ordnance, which can be built into a good shooter; but it's not even in the same zip code with the Colt.

You get what you pay for, and there's usually nothing wrong with the cheaper guns that a little TLC won't fix. The high-end mass produced target guns from the other big names are pretty darn good. But in my opinion, and more importantly my experience, they just aren't equal to Colts comparable product.

My opinion was based on Price and shootability.

I was under the impression he wanted a Milspec style 1911 that he could shoot. $900-$1100 is too much to pay IMO for a pistol that is WWI or Milspec patern.
