Once you get it back fixed, buy a blank round and then charge it, and whip it down your driveway. Now see if it will go bang.

I never said there was any difference in condition 1 and I stated already if it happened in condition 2 it was owner error. So nobody is arguing either point.

I wont be throwning it down the driveway when it gets back, but thanks for the idea. it was cocked and locked. something inside had to fail real good for this to happen. I've been brouhgt up on gun safety, always had firearms around, never had an issue. I'e taken classes, read the books, and i know that I may not know everything, but i feel that i know enough to the point where i wouldnt have a gun loaded unless i knew how everything on it worked (especially the safetys). I would never keep it in con. 2. does anyone know any good tests for it when i get it back to test it real good? besides throwing it down the driveway? hehehe

It wasn't owner error obviously and something is wrong with it if it fired cocked and locked.

I would do they typical things like try to fire it with the grip safety depressed and thumb safety on and then try to fire it with the thumb safety off and the grip safety not depressed, etc to make sure your safeties are actually working. I bought an officers before with the series 80 stuff removed and the grip safety disabled and they guy neglected to tell me. I don't mind about the series 80 stuff gone at all and it's easy sto see anyway, but the tang on the grip safety was filed down and if I hadn't did a test to make sure the safeties were working. Disabling the grip safety, and not knowing it is disabled, can lead to problems. It would also be more likely to go off when dropped if the grip safety is disabled.

Turbosupra: Since I own one of these pistols I would really like to know what they do to it and what failed, I have tried everything I know of to make mine fail since this thread started and if it was C&L ed and no one did any mods. it should not have happened, believe me none of us are trying to condem you but a lot of us have carried 1911's for years ( decades for me ) and I have never seen anything like this happen, so it will be interesting, I hoping someone didnt try to give it a trigger job before you got it even though it was described as NIB. Please keep us informed as several people here seem to have the same pistol.
Thanks Tom

I agree Frosty,
I am not trying to label anyone. I am just amazed at the situation. If it fired from cocked and locked then it is a major malfunction and in no way is it operator error. Your lucky your dog found out and not you! Send that gun back get it fixed and hook us up with the details. ND's happen and are very common even though you don't ever hear about them. I have had one myself a few years back. I killed my coffee table. Nobody got hurt and I am glad it happened. I now have alot more respect for firearms and safety out there and I am almost O-C-D when it comes to firearm safety. I got complacent, bottom line!! It could have been alot worse then it was and I count my stars everyday that it was not. Trusting the gun afterwards was hard even though it was my fault. But, you gotta get back on the horse and ride. When it gets back from SA and you do a good functional check. Trust it. you have to trust it or you will hate having it in your house. Go to the range aan dshoot and that will help. Get back on the horse and ride!!! If you want more info on my ND let me know. I don't want to change the thread's subject without your permison first.

by all means nova... I started the thread as a WTF thread. any stories, or info, or this or that will help me. I got to thinking about what frosty said.... about it being "NIB". yes, i was there when the mail guy delivered it, and watched it get open,,,, but it was at least a week before i bought it, and at leat a week since i had seen it until i bought it. The company we did the auction for was in a lot of trouble, obviously, and had been in business for YEARS, some 56 i believe, family owned, and mostly family operated. as I do not know what may have happened to the gun during that weak, i do have my own speculations after considering what you said. one guy there introduced himself to me at the beginning of the "GOB" sale as a "tinkerer." said he was the guy who was always doin the crazy things around the shop since he worked there. I'm not sure he did anything to the gun, but he had access at any given point in time during that weak to that (and many other) firearms that we sold. im not pointing the finger at him, but i'm not sure if he was exactly all the way ON his rocker.... missin a few cards, elevator stuck on floor 2, 100 bricks short, however you want to say it. I guess I will just wait and see. I will keep you posted. and Nova, take the thread as you wish, tell ur story, anything to give me more insight. thanks all, i appreciate you guys not jumping all over the "YEAH RIGHT, YOU PROBABLY DID IT" thought. I watched a guy on a forum a while back get that without anyone even questioning what happened. thats why i love XDTALK
