new to 1911?????
I was looking @ the 1911's because of all the Parts available for them. Are all 1911 part interchangeable or not and what is the cheapest 1911 pistol.

Not sure about interchangeable but there are certainly a lot of parts available that can be made to fit. Rock Island Armory is one of the least expensive 1911's. I have a Compact model that I had Springer Precision (a forum sponsor) install some parts on. He used Wilson Combat parts...

I think the Series 70 1911s are the most popular and customized
lot of people like the SA Mil-Spec it is cheap and has most of the frame features of the fancy 1911s. It is a really good starting point if you are going to build one BAD MOFO. Edit: most of the series 70 parts are completely interchangeable check out this place M1911.org

Rich-
In a perfect world, all 1911 parts should be interchangable. If you buy a cheap make, there could be issues. I have never had any part issues with my SW1911 or my SA Micro. Just be careful what you buy. Regards! Jamie |

Or you could just buy a Dan Wesson Pointman 7 and get a pistol with most of the goodies already on it (including match grade barrel and bushing) for just under $1K.
