Springfield EMP question.

I tried out my EMP today for the first time and found that you have to press the magazine release button to put the mags IN. Is this correct or should the mags go in without pushing the release button?

Thanks,

Mark

I'm not positive on this but i would think not as it's based on the original 1911 design. The action may have been tight and needed some extra oomph to go in maybe a little slam with the hand, Hopefully someone who has one will chime in as I'm interested in this pistol for CC carry and that would not be good.

The ones I've sen have been tight. Will it go in if you slam it in?

A simple fix to the mag catch makes it easier to insert.

Chip, as I mentioned on another forum, I just give mine a quick slap with my palm as I insert the mag. Seems it just needs alittle gentle persuading past the mag release catch inside the grip.

on my SA Micro-compact it was very snug when i first got it, and thought i had to push the release as well. after a little shooting and releasing I realized that it is just very stiff. it will go in if you give it some good pressure. Mine is slowly loosening up as i go.

Bryan,

I bought a Gould & Goodrich Model 800 open top OWB holster for mine. Fit is excellent. Although there isn't a holster (yet) specifically for the EMP, I believe most any leather holster meant for the Micro's or Ultra 1911 style will work well. Just alittle long in the barrel lenth by an inch or so.

I bought a DeSantis "InnerPiece" for a Colt Defender sized 1911 and it worked...that is until I got my custom HBE. Now THAT thing fits beautifully and he has the EMP mold so it's pretty much perfect. Of course, there is that wait time.

Now, about the mags: I've been told by a few people that the EMP is one of the "tightest" guns they've seen in a while. It allows for incredible accuracy from that little 3" barrel, but it also makes for soome issues if you're not paying attention. After break-in, it should be cleaned and oiled well after every range trip...if you're going to carry it.

The magazines have been tight since day one, though they seem to be getting smoother now. On my first EMP, they were just as tight, so I believe this is just an effect of Springer's tiny tolerances on these little beauties.
