1911 Refinish
I have a Springfield 1911 loaded and would like to refinish. Can you give any recommendations for anyone that has done yours. I've had my XD slide hardchromed and like the matte finish. I want to either hardchrome the whole pistol, or hardchrome the bottom frame, and "blue" the slide. Thanks for the help..

Tripp or Metalloy are good places to hardchrome. Both are highly respected in the industry.

Yeah I saw your pics Salty, that's what made me decide to do mine. Love my pistol, just don't like the "shiny" finish it came with. What was your turnaround time?

The turnaround time was a month. That was right after the holidays so I don't know if it's the same now, but I would guess it will. If you like the whole finish bead blasted first they will, but I like the sides of the slide shiny. It IS less of a glare now though even on the shiny sides. I think it looks much better than stainless.

Salty, your pics have convinced me to let Mahovsky refinish my XD9 Service when the time comes. That 1911 of yours looks perfect.

He did a great job, I have no complaints whatsoever. I will definitely send him more work in the future.

Squid, did the price include the barrel too? I looked at the link, pulled up the price sheet, and assumed the price included the "whole" piece. You know what happens when you assume though.

I haven't personally used any refinisher, but a good friend and coworker has had multiple guns refinished by Tripp. I was photographing one of his brushed chrome guns and it was quite nice. Saltysquid's photos look very similar though, and his source seems to be very competively priced as well.
