M1911a-1

Looking to buy the M1911A-1. I will probably trade my XD40 in. I love the feel of the 1911 !! I like the steel also! I have shot the 9mm and the .40 the past 2 years. I have the itch for the .45 in 1911 !! I love the SA craftsmanship!! Any feedback on those shooting the SA M1911A-1? My rannge has it ticketed for $850, but I know I can deal and trade the XD 40 Tactical. All feedback welcomed! Thanks, Steve

I was at a gun show today and they had Colts for about $700.00 in the 5 inch and commander models for the same. Why buy a gun made in brazil and put together here when you can have the real thing for the same price? Colt is THE 1911!! Floyd

Man, if you mean $850 for the parkerized mil-spec with diagonal slide cuts and spur hammer, that's about $400 too much. I'm serious - check Gunbroker.com for the model you're looking for and get a feel for what the gun is worth.

MSRP might be $900 but no one pays that...I see GI models go for < $400 brand new every once in a while.

I paid $525 for my very lightly used "Loaded" w/Novak night sights last Monday. I'd suggest either the used route or the lower model route for your first. I've heard it said that you can't really appreciate a nice 1911 until you've shot a cheap one (of course, I sorta skipped that step...)

Yeah, if you're paying over $600 for even a stainless Mil-Spec, you're paying too much. Just trying to look out for ya!

Have you shot many 1911's. The reason I ask is the A1 model isn't very comfortable to shoot compared to models that have a beavertail and the sights aren't very good. For $800 you could get a lot more gun than that. STI Spartan, Dan Wesson Pointman just to name a couple.

Look into a Springfield 1911 loaded (Full size). I have been seeing them in good used shape for around $500.00,New for under $700.00. You cann't go wrong with the Springfield 1911's. I own 3 and love them all.

Thanks!

Thanks guys for your input and concern. I will do more research on new and used. The only 1911 I shot was a friends Kimber. Nice, out of my price range though. It will be used for range and HD. An occasional competition but not many. I will keep you updated! Steve
