XD or Springer 1911
Thank you all for your advice and suggestions for which 1911 to buy in my other post. Keep your suggestions coming as every bit of info helps.
That being said..... Which should I get, an XD 9 or a Springer loaded 9mm? Also, which length, 4" or 5" ? Please keep in mind that I already have an XD45 (which I LOVE) and I do not have a 1911 yet. What should I do? (due to monetary restrictions both is not YET an acceptable answer) |

I love 1911's but I feel they run best as 45's. So if you want a 9mm I would go with the XD.

I'm with Alaskapopo on this one. The only acceptable caliber for a 1911 IMO is .45ACP. Go for the XD9.

I agree with Slugger and Alaskapopo, get an M1911 in .45ACP!
I prefer .45ACP, and have both an XD and a Springfield M1911 GI in that caliber. I had the XD first, and it is my primary concealed carry weapon; but the M1911 is such a manly gun that it didn't take me long before I had one of those as well. I love them both! Do you have the XD-45 Service or Tactical? I have a Service, so I bought a Springfield M1911 GI Government (5") as it is primarily a range pistol. I find having both in the same caliber to be much easier when I go to the range. Makes carrying ammo a lot simpler. Cheers! M2

Everyone should own at least one 1911, caliber is your option.

the 9mm is a blast to shot but i myself would have to go for the .45 1911 plus you already have a 1911 you dont have to buy 2 different ammos

A full-size M1911 chambered for 9mm should, with a little practice, become a very nice competition gun. What little recoil there is to start with should be absorbed by the frame. Sounds like it could be fun!

in my opinion, you can't go wrong with either. you have a great 45 and by betting a 9 in XD or 1911, well, it seems like a win win. the only true concern then is the cost. xd9 will run you roughly $500 out the door, the 1911 9mm loaded will cost about $850-$900.
how much are you willing to spend? will you stop there or would you plan on getting another gun later? is the loaded your dream 1911. i think it's based on how you answer these questions. me, i'd get the xd9 and wait for a 1911 in 45. upgrade a little more and get something like a trp or profession. then you'd have best of breed both in the 9 xd and 1911 in 45.

And Brother Browning will smile down from on all high...because you chose to NOT buy his design in the caliber it was not designed for. Why do you think he designed the Hi-Power later on?
