I paid around $475 for my GI model. It's not the same, but should give you a baseline price.

I usually go to http://www.galleryofguns.com/gunloca...catorstart.asp

Pretty useful to see who has what you want. I'm seeing an MSRP of $768 for the satin SS, but they're all allocated. Good luck finding one.

In reference to prices

About A year ago I bought the mil-spec for $520 which was a good price then. Mine is the parkerized rather than the stainless though. And don't let them try to sell you the G.I. model for the same. A lot of dealers where I was at were sellling the G.I. for $520 and wanted up to a hundred dollars more for the Mil-Spec.

I picked up my Mil-Spec for $425, bought it on Gunbroker. But that was three years ago.

I was looking at one the Springfield Mil-spec .45s the other day and the guy behind the counter said they were really picky with ammo unless you had some polishing work done on them. Has anyone experienced that? Other than the obvious of being made to military specs, what exactly can you expect from one of these guns?

I've got about 1k rounds through my GI and haven't had a single problem. The spent brass have dents in them, but the gunsmith said he could open up the ejection port a little and that would solve the problem. And given the GI is the baseline, I would assume the Mil-spec would have a little more work done to it at the factory.

Who is "the guy behind the counter?" Someone you trust? I have yet to experience a problem with my SA G.I., and most people I know have the same good luck with it.

As for Mil-Specs, the prices run about $559-$609, according to Guns Magazine's 2007 Annual...

I think I paid $499 for my G.I. about six months ago.

Cheers! M2

The "guy behind the counter" was just the local gun store goof showing the guns, not somone I know or trust. He was saying that FMJ and ball type ammo was all that would shoot good out of a Mil-Spec, thus it was more of a range or target gun. I had a hard time believing that, but I have never had a Mil-Spec or any experience with one, so I just nodded my head and decided to find out the real story later, thus my post here.
