1911 S.A. safety key lock removal ??????

Is there any removal directions for this key-lock safety? I havent had any problems with it but I have read that some owners of Taurus revolvers that have this same type key-lock have had it engage while shooting the gun .

I believe the owners manual has instructions on how to insert that angled rod tool that comes with the pistol. My GI came with the tool. Remember, all that mainspring housing area on any 1911 is under spring pressure so wear safety glasses and go easy when you tap out the pin.

I know some over at the M1911.org's boards have removed that safety altogether; replacing the mainspring housing, plunger and spring with one from Wilson or Ed Brown. I haven't done this and really, if you look at how it works, I really don't see how it could "fail" and lock up the gun.

If I had heard many stories of this actually happening, I'd replace it, but the concearn might be a tad overblown.

All of my S/A 1911's Mainspring housing have been replaced. Doing away with the ILS lock system. The one on my Micro-Compact never worked right from the factory. And the one on my TRP keep sticking locked. So it was a easy fix, I just removed them and put what Mr. John Browing had from the start. And know all is well in the 1911 family here.
