Front Sight Coming Off
My front sight is coming off on my Kimber Stainless II. I had night sights put on a few weeks ago, and my front sight is loose already. Its not pinned in, just in the dove tail. How can I make sure it stays on?
Thanks DaFUnk |

If you don't want to dimple it, a bit of loc-tite will do the job.

Perfect, thanks. Now, how do I ensure the front sight is in the center?

The best way is with caliper. Make sure you measure your rear notch too, assuming you don't have adjustable sights on the gun.

I had that same problem with my old Series 80 Govt. Model Colt.
I had my smith re-stake the front sight and it never shot loose again. A psecial tool is really needed to re-stake the thing properly. Loc-Tite will shoot loose...I tried that. It took a while, but it shot loose after maybe 200-300 rounds. Actually this used to be a common problem with the Colts made in the mid-80s, when Colt had alot of quality control issues. I have never heard of Kimber front sights shooting loose, though. - Brickboy240

The old Colts were staked in with a tenon that ran through a hole in the slide the Kimbers are dovetailed in. Locktite will work fine on a dovetailed sight but will have problems with a improperly staked tenon. I would however take it to a gunsmith and have either the bottom of the dovetail dimpled or the top of the dovetail staked down.
