Little Problem

Here's the problem. I have had and shot my XD40 service for over a year now, probably 2500-3000 rounds so far. I love the XD, but I have never shot it well. Today I went and shot my Kimber Stainless II for the second time ever. I shoot the 1911 2x as fast, and my groups are tighter. Not by just a little tighter either, they were almost half the size. I'm not a good shooter, but why the 1911 over the XD? Is this common? My wife has had a trigger job, so Ill check that out and see how I do on that XD.
Any suggestions?

I can't speak from experience (never shot a 1911) but I have read so many great things about how accurate they are, both because of the pistol design itself and because of the trajectory of the .45acp round. Hopefully one day I'll meet someone that has a 1911 and will let me shoot it.

the 1911 has a trigger job? I know some have said their accuracy improved when they got a trigger job on the XD. Like with any gun, some guns have to be learned to shoot well for some people. I've shot guns for the first time and was much more accurate with them than my XD. not that I shoot my XD horrible.

You might just need to work on getting your finger placed on the trigger properly, and getting the trigger pull down good on it. If you don't pull the trigger just right on the XD, to me it seems like it can throw your shots off. Also, have you considered that maybe you are flinching with the XD? Have someone mix some dummy rounds in with live rounds, and shoot them. See if when you get to the dummy rounds you flinch maybe.

Maybe you need to work on your grip as well. it's hard saying what it might be, but I'm willing to bet it's just something you need to change about your style with shooting the XD.

My wifes XD has the trigger job, just havnt shot it yet. I was just kind of shocked that I shot a gun for the second time faaarr better than I shoot my regular HandGun. I think its the trigger pull and how nice the gun feels to hold, I never know where to put my hands on the XD.

A 1911 trigger is MUCH easier to shoot than a stock XD trigger. To shoot acurately you have to actuate the trigger without moving the sights, and it is easier to that with a good trigger.

.........Plus the 1911 is a TRUE single action. the XD is great.....but in my opinion the 1911 is the greatest (semi-auto) handgun ever!!!!

The XD is a "true" single action.

Yes, your expereince is not uncommon. Probably why I own 3 1911s and one XD, Beretta and others.

The only thing I have found that comes close to shooting as sweet as a 1911 are the Hi-Power and the Sig P220. If you like the trigger on the 1911, you'll love the trigger on a Hi-Power -they're very similar.

Still, I shoot a 1911 better than just about anything. You are not wierd.

I am glad to hear that that is the case. i was getting so frustrated at the range as i watched the gun that ive shot alot, get clobbered by my new gun, bolth in slow accurate fire, and in rapid fire ammo dumps. I think I know where ill turn when its CCW time
