That Bloody 1911 Bug...

Ok, I really like some Kimbers I looked at today but the Springfield TRP light rail is a sharp looking weapon as well. Basically I have the 1911 bug and want one seriously, but something that I can carry and not have too much problem with. I am afraid the TRP looks too big to conceal, so I am leaning toward the Kimber, and I have heard that Springfields like a weaker firing pin made out of something other than stainless steel, and wanted to know what the story on that was - is it true in other words.

Kimber folks, talk to me about them - I read some other threads and it looks like alot of folks 'round these here forums don't like them. I liked an eclipse that I held today but wanted some other opinions.

Look at Ed Browns, Les Baers, Wilsons, Dan Wessons, and the such. I look at the 1911 as an investment. I still carry one daily, but its an investment well worth it. I'm not a big Kimber fan. My wife carries a Kimber Ultra CDP though, and she loves it.

1911 Bug

LOL,,,,, Well another one has come down with. Congrats.

I own a bunch od Springfields. And have shoot the dog **** out of them all. And I have Yet to break a fireing pin or a extractor. Your talking about having to shot 30-40-K rounds before that should be a concern. Thats what I have been told, And I have shot over 5000 from my TRP since I got it back in Oct.

With all that said, A friend is having a "BAD" time with a Kimber S.S. As we speak. I truly beleave his pistol is a bad one. And it will get replaced soon as the Laywer get into the act.

I own a Micro-Copmact 1911 loaded. Other than some small personal changes I have done to "Make it mine" She shoots like a champ. And today I found out LOVES 185gr JHP. Shoots them into 1.5 in. groups at 25 feet off hand. I use the "See and shoot targets" they have those black .50 cent peice stick on tab's. Well I can stack all 7 rnds into one of them at 25 feet.

Just find your self a good 1911. S/A or kimber or one of the others. There are many good ones out there. Just remember, You pay for what you get.And I have kicked my self in the ASS for not getting the better one, By just waiting till I had a few more bucks.

I am a little worried that I am going to love a 1911 so much that I am going to want .45 XD's instead of the .40's that I have and then have to take a huge loss on them even though they are barely 2 months old. *cringe*

So does anyone have any other advice about good 1911's on the market right now?

Funny you should put it that way. I had a Glock 23 that was my carry gun and after I bought my Kimber 1911, I ended up selling that Glock and buying a new XD45C to use instead.

Once you go 45ACP, it's hard to go back.

We still have our XD9s but the 40SW isn't a round that we chamber in our house anymore. Maybe again someday, but not now.

i don't know if any full size 1911 is a good conceal carry option (with that said, i don't carry so i dont' really know). i can think of a lot of other 1911 compacts that might be a better choice. with that said, i have two 1911's and both are springfield. one is the full rail TRP Operator and the other is the loaded. the trp is a little bulky but i thought i read that it is the fbi issue so i'm thinking it's pretty reliable.

as you've mentioned the concealing will be the issue. At any rate, i just wanted you to know that the trp is a fine work of art however, it's a little pricey in my opinion. i'm certain kimbers are nice too. at any rate, go for something smaller that will carry well.

http://www.coltsmfg.com/cmci/Defender.asp

as for 1911 style.. god i'd be happy with any one of em out there for the most part.. as long as its reliable

cheers

I see you use an OWB paddle, but is that an IWB mag carrier? I've seen it the other way around, so this is new to me.
