New Taurus 1911!!!

I just picked up my new Taurus 1911 yesterday. The trigger is absolutely amazing, I'm estimating about 3.5lb with no creep. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet as we were covered with 10" inches of cnow today. My question is, does anyone know if I can shoot +p ammo. Granted I wouldn't do this often, only to test for self defense ammo. Do I run a chance of hurting the gun.

I shot +P in my Taurus 1911 before getting rid of it. Had no problems with it. It is a fairly beefy pistol. What does the manual say about it?

The manual most always say dont do it but that liability. Yes you can shoot +P 45ACP in it with no ill effect , but just like every gun out there it is harder on it.

Are you sure the trigger is just not a typical 1911 trigger pull, single action autos tend to have very nice triggers.

These things supposedly have factory trigger jobs.

According to their catalog (2006) all of taurus' new production firearms are capable of shooting +P ammunition.

my trigger broke out of the box at5.2 lbs. and after about 600 rounds is settled in at 4.4 lbs.but it was always smooth, in fact it is quickly coming onto my list of carry guns alongside my XD 40 service and a Taurus snubby 605 SSCH in 357 mag.

EDIT: meant to add that my load is corbon DPX 185 +P

Congrats cdknox! Man, nothing like getting a new gun! I've been looking at a Taurus....I have been thinking about something in a 1911 to go along with my XD .45 Service.

+P

Shooting +P ammo. out of a full size 1911 shouldn't be any trouble. Its the Compact models you have to watch. I've done it with my S/A Micro-Compact. And I WILL NOT do it again.

As for the the PT-1911. I got a chance to shoot one yesterday. I am a true and Blue SPRINGFIELD guy. With that said, I will own a PT-1911 soon. This gun was great. The trigger was smooth and crisp. After we changed over to my Wilson mags it feed with no trouble using WIN. 230gr Ball ammo.

The groups shot about 3 in. at 25 feet standing off hand in a "COLD rain". The only thing I would change out of the box would be the sights. But I'm very picky about my sight pattern.

Great shooting gun for the $$$. I would recomend it for anybody looking for a entry level 1911.

I had been looking at one of the Taurus 1911's as well. Thinking of replaing my Auto Ordinance 1911 A1. It would be nice to have some of the bells and whistles that the Taurus features.

I agree with the advice in the previous posts. You will have no problems shooting +P, but I do share the reservations expressed by AR-Doctor about doing so in the compact models.
