Thumbs up STI Spartan Range Report!

Range Report!

Just got my Spartan on Friday.
(Thanks Scott!)

I took it out to the range on Saturday and ran 250 round of WWB thru it without any problems. Then I shot a 150rd IDPA match with it today.

Guys, I LOVE this gun!
The slide is like glass, the trigger crisp and right at about 3-4#, and the controls are very positive. Both Wilson and Chip McCormick mags ran perfectly, as well as the Novack that came with it.

The sight picture is awesome and as for accuracy.....
I was able to hit a golf ball at 15 yards on the first shot. It took me two at 25 yards and 4 at 50(!!!) yards to hit it.

The ONLY two observations that I have to make that are AT ALL negative are these:
Plastic MSH: Fixed by putting on a S&A magwell.
Plastic Trigger: What's up with that? Oh, well, if I end up hating it, I can always swap itout.

I bought this gun as a backup to my SA Loaded model, with Springfield Custom shop trigger work. But I think I've just reversed that and the SA is now the backup for this one!

Guys, you are NOT going to find a better 1911 for this kind of money!

(Sorry, no pic. I can't find the CF card for my Digital camera.)

I do believe that IF they keep the quality up on these it will "change" the what other folks are making for the prices they are charging. I've sold every one I can ge tinto stock.

I did a little tweaking on the trigger for you. The word is they came into STI at 2.5#'s and they freaked out and made them heavier. I also swapped out the stock orange FO for the green.

STI uses the plastic trigger and MSH on their higher end guns too, I prefer the SVI trigger and MSH that come as stock items, but they cost a LOT more.

I don't get too excited about new 1911's generally, but the Spartan is something worth getting excited about.

I had a similarly great experience with mine first time out--- I've already changed out the plastic MSH for a wilson ---- along with the little-to-long full length guide rod for a wilson two piece - to make takedown a little more user friendly. Trigger might be next --- the plastic one works great, but hey - its plastic!

Only glitch was that the slide stop was activated by the reamining cartridges in the mag causing the slide to lock back once or twice per mag. I've been told this is an easy fix, but haven't done it yet.

I own (have owned) several 1911's including one STI costing twice as much as this Spartan and for the sub-$600.00 price it is the best of the bunch.

seen here with my go-to alumagrips -- I'll change these as soon as I get a feel for the gun (and find the just right grips - might get some STI logo grips)

I highly recommend Greider triggers. They were originally Videcli triggers and Greider bought them out. You see lots of triggers based on the original videcki design and they are not expensive. Plus you can get short, medium or long depending on what fits you.
