I have used the loader from my XD45 to load my SA M1911...it will work but it is much better than the 1911 magazine so it takes a little patience.
I bought a 1911 loader at my local range, but I see them all the time at gun shops. They look like the XD loader, just thinner and not quite as easy to use. There are also these loaders, I tried one at a gun show once and wasn't impressed; but others may feel differently... ![]() One company that makes them is MagLoader. Hope that helps! Cheers! M2

+1 on the HKS mag loaders. I have the one pictured above for my 1911 and another for my XD-9s. It is a great investment, particularly when you fire 1700 rounds in two days during a Manny Bragg training session. It sure saves a lot of wear on your thumbs.

From Wikipedia: A magazine (also called a mag or, commonly but incorrectly, a clip) is an ammunition storage and feeding device within or attached to a firearm. Magazines may be integral to the firearm (fixed) or removable (detachable). A clip is a device that is used to store multiple rounds of ammunition together as a unit, ready for insertion into the magazine of a repeating firearm. This speeds up the process of loading the firearm as several rounds can be loaded at once, rather than one round being loaded at a time. Several different types of clips exist, most of which are made of inexpensive metal stampings that are designed to be disposable, though they are often re-used. The term clip is commonly used to describe a firearm magazine, generally a specific type of magazine known as a detachable box magazine, or even a firearm belt. These uses of the term are incorrect; a clip is used to load a magazine, while a magazine or a belt is used to load a firearm.

The dude I carpool with calls them clips all the damn time. I think he does it now to piss me off, since I correct him each and every time he calls a magazine a clip.
