I'm going to give the CDPII a serious look. I don't see anything out there so far that has struck my fancy as much as that gun. It runs about $1200. It's light, looks great, and is loaded with quality features and components.

The reason the external extractors on Kimbers did not work was that, the tension on the case was from a small spring. Kinda like a Glock extractor but way lighter spring. The easy fix was to take a spring out of something else and stuff it it there. Also from my experience the machining was terrible during the external extrator period as I like to call it.
Now they are making decent guns, but still to expensive. Too many plastic and MIM parts that are not quality.

I read an interesting article on extractors in guns and ammo mag in the complete book of the model 1911 and it had some notes on wear and tear and found some interesting myths debunked about tension etc. Floyd

The only reason I'd not go with a Kimber over a Loaded Springer is warranty. I like the life time warranty of the Springer.

I've got........
A Kimber Custom II, my only (and first) 1911. Mine has an external extractor. True, I don't have a high round count through it (dern .45 is expensive) but I've never had a problem with it. Most accurate thing I have ever shot. It's my CCW during the cold months, has never had a problem with ammo that wasn't directly related to the ammo (my first reloads - cases not resized right). That was more an operator headspace and timing issue. I don't know what else to say - no problems with it at all - I had been thinking about running some IDPA with it but I'm pretty slow. I bought it when I knew nothing about the 1911 other than it was a good looking weapon - didn't hear about any probs with the external extractor prior to it.

Kimber has some work to do to get their reputation back after their extractor changes/problems/fixes...
I still think they make a quality handgun, but I'll stick with Colt and SA for now... As far as mags go, well, stick with the Browning design... Dead
