Whether it be the the rifle, the pistol, the knife, the Taser or the OC canister, every ounce and every inch does count. It counts for the modern combat soldier, the cop, and the CCW citizen. Implying that previous generations had to use old heavy technology and we arent "men" unless we too weigh ourselves down with the same antiquated gun is Luddism (those who shun modern technology). Out of the box, for half the price, near half the weight and twice the reliability of a small 1911, the XD-SCs are a better choice for those that come in harms way. Don't forget that the 1911's safety lever is manditory in order to make the gun safe for 9th grade educated 1908 soldiers using a gun with an exposed hammer striking a firing pin. We have better technologies, higher educations and more pistol training today. This isn't to say that the 1911 wasn't a brilliant design for it's time, just as the Garand was in the '30s, The M16 was in the '60s, the glock was in the '80s, and the XD is now (and I own every last one of them!). But hey, brother, times change! We drive fuel injected vehicles at 75 miles an hour; we have integrated grenade launchers, optics, lights and IR lasers on our 30rd mag. combat rifles and we have plastic framed 20oz pistols that have firmly entrenched themselves in our modern carry world. And that sir, is why there is no www.1911talk.com !

I have owned and carried my SA Micro Compact 1911 for about three years now and it is totally reliable. I have had zero issues with it. I bought it used and I think it must have been after the break in period. I also have a XD9SC. I am waiting to get a Crossbreed IWB holster for it before I carry it on a regular basis. BTW, I carry my SA Micro 1911 in a Milt Sparks VM2 and it is totally comfortable all day! Also, I have it loaded with Federal Premium Low Recoil 165 grain JHP's.

I appreciate all of your responses. It looks like from a weight, reliability and concealability standpoint, the XD Subcompact can't be beat. Thanks!

So Mr Mavro , why did you ask in the first place if a sub 1911 was better than a sub XD? It would seem that you have your mind made up already . It would seem to me that if you ask an opinion that is what you will get. I hate a crybaby ( not you ) who whines about arming himself by choice or by reason of duty then whines about his heavy burden. Also as stated above there is a whole site in existence, that has been around much longer than this forum which caters to the 1911 afficianado. And there are lots of us and many improvements have been made since J. Browning put his stamp on the pistol. As stated before it is entirely your decision to pick whichever pistol YOU choose. Personally I carry a five inch S&w 1911, A Amrcor 5 inch 1911, and a 4 inch XD service in 40cal. It just depends on what i feel like carrying that day and I have a BUG at all times to supplement them. I hope our opinions have helped you on your way to your choosing of your carry pistol.. Good day

Vashooter, like many others, I am looking to get into the right pistol on the right platform for the job. My XD 45 Service performs quite nicely in it's current assignment, home defense and the range. However, I recently got my concealed carry permit and it is tough for me to carry a large pistol in my situation. So, I am looking to purchase the best CCW. I hear praises for the 1911 in a 4 or 5 inch barrel from so many (now including you), I was curious why so few talk of a 1911 with a 3 inch barrel. My question was genuine and my mind wasn't made up when I asked it. Experiences of the people in this forum are of interest to me. The plan: after I buy the XD-40 Subcompact, I will get a 1911 in a 5 inch to complete the experience. I appreciate the feedback.

In that case let me muddy the waters for you a little more. This site is excellent however it is somewhat skewed in it's XD favoritism. I urge you to check out this site and look at all the models of 1911 sub-compacts also some in hi-cap variety and some that are just plain business /http://forum.m1911.org/forumdisplay.php?forumid=17

You left out while riding a horse!

And you can read all the 1911 forums you want, and you still won't find a majority of 1911 guys who think the sub is reliable. My gunsmith tried to explain it to me, but after those years apprenticing with some guy named Clark, he got too technical.

Hmmmmm, a Kimber ultra carry with ALL their pro touches coming in at around $1000 that i will put up all my guns that out of 1000 rounds is only 85% to 90% reliable, or two XDSC40's Ill bet the same you can put 1000 rounds through each with 99.9% reliability? i carryed a micro compact for just over a year and the question of if it would fire the second time scared me mor than the fact i have less conditions in my xd! Their cool guns if you target or compeat with them but you would be better off trying to cc a deagle!

just my $.02

If you like the 1911 style but want a really compact version look at Para's Carry. I have shot one and its a great shooter awesome trigger. It will fit the 7-8 rnd 45 mags and weighs about the same as the XD SC. My only concern about a short barrel 45 is the velocity and penetration capability. It's already a slow round and the short barrel doesn't help. Maybe someone has already done balistic testing or you need to shoot +P ammo.
