Anyone recently Black-T'ed their 1911?

Just curious about the price and turnaround if you've done it recently.

Black teflon?

I am going to have my Hi-Power tefloned. Flat black frame and matte silver slide...two tone. It ought to look great.

Parkhill Gunworks in Houston does some amazing teflon coatings. I have been to their shop twice and looked at their work. It is very even, tough as nails and not overly expensive. My 2-toning of the FN Hi-Power is going to run me under 200 bucks. I also asked about flat black tefloning the slide on my XD-40 Service and he said about 70 bucks on the price.

The teflon coating used by Parkhill Gunworks is the same treatment they use on pistons of racing engines. Its some sort of proprietary stuff and they won't give out too much info as to who does it for them, but if you see the results - its amazing. I sat there with a set of car keys and scratched like mad on a rifle barrel that had been tefloned and could not make ANY marks on the stuff. Holster wear is not a huge worry!

They have a matte silver, flat black and a strange OD green that is avaialable.

...worth a look, since you, too live in Houston.

Parkhill Gunworks is in the Heights on 20th Street. Small shop that does VERY high quality work. 713-861-3234

Go by and see their teflon finishes. I don't know exactly what their process is, but its the toughest gun finish I have ever seen and if a very flat black is what you want...why not get it done locally? Their silver looks good, too...almost like hard chrome.

This teflon coating has a sort of lubricative quality to it and reminds me of NP3 or the coatings Wilson puts on their 1911s.

They quoted me at about 180 bucks and 2 week wait for 2-toning my Hi-Power silver and black. I cannot wait to see what my Belgian Beauty looks like with this finish. I might do my Swiss P225 SIG after that.

Thanks for the info Brick.. I need the frame of my 1911 refinished. I'll try to swing by their shop as I am in the heights at least once a week.

If I had on to do in black, or even 2 tone black green or gray I would go with this guy:

http://www.shootiniron.com/PRICES.html

He does the same thing Wilson does with gunkote over parkerized but much cheaper. He charges 130.00 for a complete semi auto pistol and does all parts except springs and pins and he does some polishing and lapping.:

RAILS AND PIVOT POINTS AND SIGHT DOTS.ONE MAGAZINE
IS ALSO INCLUDED.

I don't have anything to do with him, but I have read good things.

I have one I'm going to get bobtailed and hard chromed though.

I'm going to send my 1911 to Bob Cogan of Accurate Plating & Weaponry. They do just awsome work. He's built several guns for me including my current 1911. I'm going to do a black hard chrome frame and a brushed hard chrome slide, parts and comp.

You may want to give them a look. He just recently moved to Alabama, but when he was here, he was "the guy" for any serious shooter. He's done work for the big boys as well.

I was going to send mine to Bob Cogan, but decided to send it instead to Ron Mahovsky:

http://www.mahovskysmetalife.com/index.htm

They do everything except the springs for 130.00, or in my case on an aluminum framed gun for 145.00 which includes nickle plating the frame before hard chroming. I'm having them bead blast eveything except the sides of the slide first so it will be a tough bead blasted finish except for the polished sides of the slide. It's included in the price. I AM paying 15.00 more though for them to remove the roll marks, I like the bare look.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Bob cogan and in fact I spoke to him on the phone a couple of hours shooting the breeze, salt of the earth as far as I'm concerned. Ron has been doing it for over 25 years so his work and Bob's are both excellent and Ron's prices are cheaper. I will also add tripp research to the list of the top olaters, but they do not do aluminum as bob and ron do.

I sent it tuesday and he should have it tomorrow, friday. I can't wait. It'll be about a month or so though.

Bob's a great guy. When he was here in FL, I can't think of a single time I stopped in his shop where he didn't take the time to talk to me and explain things to me in as much detail as I cared to take.

I'll take a look though at Ron's link. Thanks for the quality alternative.
