PT1911 broke...

Shot my 1911 a couple of days ago and with one round there was a loud bang. Sounded more like one of my 45 Long Colt +Ps than a 45 ACP. After that round my grip safety is no longer straight and appears that were its pinned the "ears" have spread apart a little. There is now a gap between the memory pad and grip frame. The grip safety rattles side to side. Stripped to inspect it and was unable to remove the firing pin. Gun has around 150 rounds through it. Was shooting Winchester White Box 230 GR. What do you think happened? Over charged round? Lucky it only bruised my hand. Will post pics tonight...

Sent from my cheap phone.

Pics and more details would help. Possible overcharged round, or perhaps a squib/barrel obstruction followed by shooting another round?

Sorry to hear about your pistol and hand.

Well, if the barrel isn't bulged or otherwise compromised, I'd think it wasn't a squib or obstruction. Perhaps the pics will help us figure out what happened.

Have you gotten in contact with Taurus yet? I'm wondering if they're going to cover it, or give you the run-around? Also, keep the box of ammo you were using that day and get in contact with Winchester. Doubt they'll take responsibility, but you never know... Did you save the brass casing from the offending round?

Sounds like a double charge.

Send it to Taurus.

Did you look for the case?

Yep, send it to Taurus. You were shooting factory ammo, no excuse for the gun coming apart like that. Offer to send the ammo and empties to Taurus too in case they want to get in touch with Winchester over the issue.

Didn't mean for it to sound worse than what it was... Also was unable to retrieve the casing.

Sent from my cheap phone.
