Thats cool. I looked at a P225 the other day, made in 1980's, considerable use but it sure felt good in my hands. I actually bought a 1911 just yesterday though because I like the trigger and feel of a 1911 a bit more. Its a Kimber and its on the way, got a very good deal on it too! Pictures will be posted soon.
For the record though I will purchase a SIG sometime soon also, I absolutely love the quality and accuracy of the guns, though the control placement for the decocker and mag release leave something to be desired for my small lefty hands.

To me, it doesn't look like the EMP is much smaller than a regular 1911 by compairson... It just looks like a "girl 1911" to me...
I think the picture in the background ( that is outlined ) is the current micro 1911 in .45acp, the EMP ( front picture ) only weighs 23 oz. and is only chambered in 9, 40 and 45 GAP. It is a totally redesigned to be smaller, read the website. You just blew this picture up of the pistol making look big. The overall lenghth of the regular full size 1911 is 8.5 inches and the weight is 39 ozs. The EMP 1911 is the ticket for concealed carry.
The First … The Smallest … Soon to be copied by everyone:
Get a good look at the new Springfield Armory EMP, because soon it will be copied by everyone. And when you see their pistols that look almost like ours, you will say to yourself, "You know ... that looks a lot like a Springfield Armory EMP."
Get a good look at a whole new class of pistol -- the short-action 1911. The new Springfield Armory 9mm Enhanced Micro Pistol (EMP) is the first production 1911 made from the ground up to shoot short cartridges like 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 GAP. The result? The smallest, most concealable 1911 you can buy.
Previously, when 1911s were chambered for short-action calibers like the 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 GAP, this was done on guns built around the longer 45 ACP cartridge (Essentially, long-action 1911s). Spacers were placed in the magazine to align the shorter cartridges. The EMP is the first production 1911 designed specifically for these shorter cartridges.
The world got its first glimpse of the short-action 1911 in 2005 with a prototype Springfield gun called the "Defender." Chambered in 45 GAP, this rare gun received rave reviews from numerous firearms publications. We decided to launch this new class of 1911 in the more popular 9mm caliber in the EMP.

Thank I appreciate your post. I have a friend at work who just loves his Kimber and has really sparked my interest in the 1911. From all I've read the Kmber is a very reliable gun also. My XD-9 is reliable too, just lacks that accuracy I want in a carry gun. Once I get the Kimber, it will be my primary carry and my XD-9 will probably turn into either a car gun, or just home defense.
I can tell you one thing though, if it hiccups after 1000 rounds of breaking in, it won't be my carry gun. We'll see, thanks for your help guys!
By the way, internal vs external extractor? Which is better? Should I avoid Kimbers with the external?
I also found a Kimber Pro Carry II thats in like new condition, but is a 9mm. This interest me because I like guns that are cheap to shoot and train with. Any thoughts on the 9mm opposed to the .45ACP, without getting into a caliber debate?
Avoid the external extractors on all Kimbers, I had one and it jammed like their was no tomorrow.

Extremly short barrels 1911's are not for me, officer size is about as small as I would ever consider a 1911 in 45 ACP. IHMO---
I agree, nearly anyone can conceal a 4" barrelled gun, so why not do it. More velocity, more accuracy, more reliability.
I know XD's aren't 1911's, but I find it hard to justify the purchase of an XD-SC also when I can conceal my service pistol fine. I'm a small guy too, 140 and only 5'7"!

Right on. I have been carrying daily for the past two years. I have never tried to carry anything bigger than my usual piece, a Taurus PT145. Then, I found out that my XD45 Service fits the holster for the Taurus - perfectly. So, I tried that for a day, and was really impressed. It was almost MORE comfortable, because the barrel goes below the belt a little further, balancing it out.
The grip is a little bigger, but because of the barrel length it was drawn tighter to the body. So, when I get my Kimber Pro Carry, it will probably be my new primary piece, because its right between the two, and MUCH flatter. Plus its got that SWEET Kimber 1911 trigger and accuracy.
The XD45 sure does make a helluva house gun though. And still good for ccw.

The Kimber line up is great. I have a Raptor II full size 5", a Pro Raptor 4", and an Ultra Raptor 3". Going against the grain here, but I like the Ultra Raptor the best. Very accurate...not quite as good as the 5" but That said, the salesman that I bought all 3 Kimbers from and I got into a discussion as I was looking to pick up something different. He said that the military 1911's were so reliable and dependable because they were "loosey-goosey" as far as fit goes. Meaning they were combat accurate not target accurate, but due to the wider tolerances they were far less prone to problems caused by dirt, sand etc. which would affect the Kimbers since they are much more tightly fitted. Of course I clean and maintain my guns after each trip to the range, but if the excrement ever hits the propeller, I do believe that the XD45's will be the primary pistols for swmbo and myself.
My two fav carry weapons are a Glock 27 and my Kimber Pro Carry II HD. Even though the Kimber is the steel frame I carried it more than the little guy. Bottom line, accurate, reliable, sturdy, and not a hiccup in 1K of shooting it....unless you count the time my sights came off in a match (same day I had my TFO's installed on it!...oops).
YMMV
