More colt defender issues....
Yesterday, I took my colt defender out to the range and put a few rounds through it, same ammunition as last time, same mags, same new springs. Had a few ftf. Got home and field stripped to clean it, noticed 3 things. 1. There is brass everywhere in the chamber and the cases were chewed apart 2. The barrel rides much looser and 3. The barrel link is very very loose, the pin does not slide out but the link basically moves freely (guessing that explains the barrel gap) is this a pretty common problem? I have recently been informed the old owner shot alot of +p *face palm* so I'm guessing it has been beat to **** anyways. Should I drop it off at a gunsmith and get the link replaced?

I would send it straight to Colt if you can get a hold of them.

I dont have a Colt, but I would send it to them.
That being said Ive put a ton of +p rounds through my RIA with no issues.
How much +p is to much?

I thought Colt only warranted the original owner.
There is supposed to be a gap between the barrel feed ramp and the Frame Feed ramp. Your looking at the gun unlocked if you fix that gap when the pistol is locked, the barrel will overhang the frame feed ramp when in locked position. If the barrel is loose when the pistol is in the locked position is when you would have a problem. Unlocked it is supposed to be loose.
Makes you wonder why the original owner sold it in the first place.

Colt will still fix it right even if it isn't free. Buy once as they say.

Having considered a Defender, I'm quite curious how this plays out...
Still, I've always tried to send issues to the OEM. Who else should be best to work on their stuff than a gunsmith trained on their stuff...

I have been carrying a Colt Defender as my EDC for over three years now and it has performed flawlessly. Colt should make it right by you.

More colt defender issues....
Short barrel 1911s can be problematic feeders. It would be helpful if the OP supplied more detail about his FTF issues. Pictures of the jam would be even better.
Without more detail, EWAG, this is a spring issue.
And I don't see anything wrong in the one supplied picture. Looks normal.

Failure to feeds were a combination of new mags/new recoil springs and very aggressive hollow point ammunition, kept getting caught between the barrel and the gigantic gap between the barrel and feed ramp (gold dots) I have found round nose and cone shaped hollow points to be 100%, you just have to really test your ammo with these little guns. The barrel link being incredibly loose is a major concern, and the extractor almost ripping the lip off the case is my main concern, also like to add my defender hates 185 grain
