What 1911 models should I stay away from?

Have had plenty of revolvers and a number of striker fired pistols. Looking for my first 1911. So many to choose from. Wondering which to avoid. Looking for a gun that points well and is easy to field strip. Also looking for quality.
Thanks,

OK...

For easier field strip, stay away from FLGRs (Full Length Guide Rods), and stick with GI two-piece guide rods. However, as long as you get a pistol that uses a bushing, it is usually pretty easy to replace a FLGR with a GI system, and inexpensive as well.

I'd also stay away from pistols that have firing pin safeties--Series 80, Kimber II's, Taurus (iirc), some S&W's, SIG's...there are more, but that's off the top of my head.

Beyond that, the question becomes--what are you looking at spending?

Through my little experience with 1911s I would stay away from Auto Ordnance...Thing was jamming up left and right with FTE and FTF.

When I was shopping for my first 1911 I was pointed to RIA but after shooting a Springfield TRP I was convinced that spending the extra $ was worth it and ended up with a Trophy Match

Looking to spend a maximum $1500.00. Want a reliable, accurate, and handsome 1911 that field strips easily, without spending two or three grand. It will be a house gun with occasional carry. Also forgot to mention I'm looking for a .45 with a standard barrel length. Again, there many good 1911 models, and I realize it's pretty much a subjective choice when it comes to the "best" gun. Consequently, I'm more interested in what I should stay away from.

Stick with the 5 inch for easy take down.

For that money you should go with Springer, Kimber, Colt, hell you could give a Smith and Wesson for that price.

Under your price range--I'd look at a Dan Wesson. The Heritage is an awful nice model for enough under your price range that you could buy a nice amount of ammo and a holster.

Personally though--and I do mean personally, because a couple years ago I was looking at the same price for a 1911--I'd stretch a few hundred more and buy yourself a Les Baer (which is precisely what I did).

There are several models for around or slightly under $1800. Well worth another $300, imho.

ETA--here's a lightly used Concept V Stainless for under your budget...http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=294043843

Thanks, I'll take a look at the Concept V Stainless. Appreciate the feedback. I plan to look for a while, however. Hope to hear from other folks on the forum, too.

my choice would be the dan wesson valor. thats right in your price range. everything is American made, no mim parts, everything is forged, and it has ion bonding finish which is very tough.

The 1911s to stay away from are not in the price range you are talking about ($1500). Most in that range make great guns. The ones to be careful with are in the $500 range.
