Attempting to buy a SA Operator Champ, some questions

Hi,

I am in the market for a Springfield Operator Champion. They're hard to find. I've been looking for a while. I found a couple used ones, but I am a bit wary. How do I know this gun hasn't been used in a crime/is not wanted/stolen etc? I mean I would go through the FFL->FFL transfer, does that automatically check it? I have never purchased a used gun before, so I am new to this.

Also, I see some guns are listed as lightweight operator champions and others aren't. Is there a difference, or is it just the same gun but some people choose to leave out the LW?

Thanks for the help.

Side note, if you have, or no someone who has and is willing to sell a NIB Springfield Operator Champion .45. I have the funds now and know my FFL that I would transfer to.

I think you worry too much.

But if you really are that concerned, go to Gunbroker and have one shipped to your dealer.

As to buying, or even selling, used guns, I've bought and sold handguns with no more than a handshake and a thank you..
As long as they are a resident of the State of Texas and tell me they can legally own a firearm, transaction done.

I usually use a bill of sale, but not always...

Does the Operator Champion have two different versions, or are they all lightweights?

I'm not certain offhand; I would think they do...but perhaps not.

Check SA's website; it should have the information.

You should check SA website for the latest info. Here is what I know from my research a few years back.

There is only one version of Champion Operator, it is light weight frame and in black Armory Kote finish.

They have Champion models in the Loaded family but they are not Champion Operator as they have no light rail.

I had a hard time finding one years ago but was able to track one down eventually with relatively good price. It is a great gun and I still have it. Good luck.
