Colt 1911 certified in California?

I didn't recognize the handgun in the California roster.
Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale - Firearms Division - California Dept. of Justice - Office of the Attorney General
If so, what Model # or #'s is it?
I also assume Rock Island Armory is overall not available in California because of the complete absence from the roster.

Colt has a lot of different models these days, so we need to know the specific gun you are looking at. I don't live in California, but I know for a 1911 to be legal, they have to perform tests on it to insure that it is safe. Guns that are stamped as not legal have simply not been tested.

Also, every 1911 manufacturer I've seen clearly marks their firearms as California Legal or Not Legal, and if you can't find that information, the manufacturer will have it if you contact them.

I too wanted to see if the Rock Island was CA legal, the problem is that it is listed as Armscor. It stumped me at first too.

Now a follow up question,
RIA or Colt?
This will be my first 1911, wanted this .45 for the longest time. I am on a real tight budget, so I would have to save much longer depending on the choice. I hear that the RIA is a real nice piece itself and not a bad introduction to 1911's, but I also really like the Colts because of its history and heritage.
Would definitely be satisfied with minimal spendings, and then again I would would definitely be a happy man with a Colt in my collection.

You honestly can not go wrong with either. Both are going to be great guns. Two things I think will need to come into play in your decision: What you want, and what you are willing to spend.

The major thing is knowing what you want. Do you want a G.I. model? (I would not recommend a G.I. as your first 1911). Do you want a beavertail, skeletonized hammer, and skeletonized trigger? Do you want a 1913 rail? Do you want Mil-spec, Novak, or Adjustable sights, and do you want plain, dot, or night sights?

Both manufacturers offer these kinds of options, and in different configurations. You need to figure out what you want, then see if they offer it. If they both offer it, then you need to decide how much you are willing to spend.
