DCOA my PT1911

I had I bright idea of disassembling 1911 since I sent my slide out to James for refinishing. It did not need a DCOA cause the gun is brand new it's more of just a disassembly to get familiar with the internals, anyway I started to take it apart at 10:30a est and did not finish until 8:45p est. disassembly was very easy as everything is, I tried real hard to remember where everything was but when I pulled out pins parts came out that I didn't see there original placement. So needless to say I was stuck. I looked on YouTube to find a good reassembly video all the ones I was finding did not pertain to my 1911 cause there were parts they were not showing,so after googling a ton I found a thread on another forum saying how the pt1911 insides are somewhat similar to the colt 80s series so found a video on 80 series colt assembly and things just begun to come together!

Does this get easier with practice? And how often should you do this?

This is only my 2nd 1911, repairs or maintenance has always been done by my gunsmith except the basic field stripping. I want to get into doing my own installs and repairs when needed on my firearms but assembling this 1911 was difficult and made me not ever want to do it again.

Can't test to see if it's right cause I don't have my slide but the trigger engages the safety works and the hammer stays cocked and it half cocks.

Tips, pointer anything would be appreciated.

Series 80 1911's are just a little tougher than the 70 series due to the drop safety parts. Once you remember where everything goes it's pretty easy to do. Here is a link to help with the PT1911 specifically; Pictorial Detail Disassembly of the 1911

I wish I had this earlier, the blue and yellow parts(excuse my ignorance) are what delayed me the most. I hope this gets easier

There is a GREAT CAD/CAM video of a 1911 disassembly and reassembly, with or without music on youtube.
Can't find the link from here at work.
It's sweet.

If you do that once a week you'll be amazed at how soon it will be like second nature to take it apart and put it back together.

I did mine for fun in the dark while watching a movie with just touch.
I love to do that. Something satisfying about doing that with my hands and knowing it's done correctly.
Almost as much fun as shooting them.

If you start to think about modifications. Study first.

is this the vid you are thinking of? Assembly first, operation starts at 3:20. Pretty cool.

the BEST colt .45 1911 animation collection ( with labeled parts ) - YouTube
that to is a fantastic video but it too is missing the 2 parts that are best known in the colt 80 series, those 2 parts are what puzzled me the most and caused the delay in my assembly.. thanks for the video i saved it to my favorites and will use it to dcoa my other 1911.

If you dab a little bit of Vaseline or grease on those parts you'll be able to manipulate them easier, and then after assembly you can spray them down with your favorite oil to remove the tackiness.
