Could be a grip technique thing, too. I don't have *any* squeeze with my fingers. Only finger pressure that occurs for me is my trigger finger. Strong hand pushes, weak/support hand pulls. Only strong hand finger pressure is the trigger finger, weak/support hand fingers are cupped, but not squeezing - just reacting to the pressure of my strong arm. *shrug*
Either way, my golf ball and chain linked front straps do nothing to my hands. 20 LPI rubs my strong-hand fingers raw after 300 rounds or so.

Yeah, it doesn't feel good just holding it to me. Let alone shooting it.

What grit sandpaper should i use to make it less sharp? Emery cloth is to fine to actually do anything.

A little over 25 years. I own over 2 dozen 1911's. Any other questions? I'd be more than glad to help you with any questions that you might have. Seriously. Not trying to be a smartass. I have quite a bit of experience with them. Be glad to answer any questions that you might have. If you don't want to ask on here, then just PM me.

i have owned a 1911 for 2 years and I'm 18, so I'm probably not accustomed to that rough checkering yet.

It's really not that hard to get used to. I love a 20LPI front strap. My favorite is probably 25LPI, but I have really grown to love the 15LPI that my Guncrafters have. To me, the 20LPI on a TRP is as good as it gets, especially for a tactical gun. Trust me. It's not hard to get used to the 20LPI checkering that comes on the TRP's.
Here's my SACS TRP. LOVE it.

The GC 15lpi isn't as sharp since they knocked the points down.
