I almost bought a Springer Loaded and had every intention of buying just that model.

However, the gun store had a TLE II in the case for within 20 bucks price of the Loaded, but the Kimber had front strap checkering and Meprolight night sights - two things the Loaded was missing.

So I came home with the Kimber and it has been great.

Still, the Loaded is a good pistol and many here own them and have had few troubles.

Compare features and prices and go from there. Cannot go wrong with either pistol, really.

I would go with Kimber. I love Springfield and have owned a few, but that lock on the mainspring housing really bothers me.

Two piece barrel?

Never mind, I found it. Have there been any instances of separation or where the accuracy was proven to falter because of it?

Or is this along the same lines as MIM where everyone makes a big fuss, but in the long run it doesn't lead to the catastrophic failure everyone seems to expect?

I have one Kimber and five Springfields. Each has been a good pistol, but I prefer the Springfields.

Yep...worrying over the 2 piece Springfield barrel makes about as much sense as worrying over MIM parts breaking.

I mean...really...we have HOW MANY 1911 shooters on this site that own a 1911 with a few MIM parts. How many MIM parts breakage threads do you see? People forget that back in the days (before many of you knew what a 1911 was) there were breakages of Colt machined parts, too. Not very often...but it DID happen .People have been snookered into thinking that if it is made of machined steel, it cannot snap. Not true.

Some might not like the Springer mainspring lock and some might poo poo Kimber's Swartz safety. Both are not worth worrying over. Pick the pistol that you like best and has the features you want at the right price and buy it.

The chances of you getting a great pistol, be it a Loaded Springer or Kimber...are very good.

I own both brands and they are great shooters, period.

I'd get the Kimber, but that's just because I have one and am biased in its favor. So take this opinion with a grain of salt.
