Rock Island Armory Tactical in 9MM

I did a lot of research when I bought my Kimber last year.
I did 3 months of web surfing and reading about many brands of 1911 pistols.
In that research I always found many people said a lot of nice things about RIA - Rock Island Armory pistols.
So whenever someone starts a thread on an affordable or 1st 1911 purchase, I usually recommend RIA.

Well, today I took my own advice.
I had taken a Sig P239 in a trade a couple months ago.
I acquired it for a HD gun for the the wife and I.
But since I only carry my Kimber CDP (now the SA EMP) I no longer carry my Sig P239 SAS.
So it has made its way to the HD gun.
So I took the other P239 to the gun show and after about an hour a guy gave me $550 for it.
I was asking $600, so I did Ok with it.

I was cruising the rest of the show trying to sell my Kimber CDP and found the RIA Tactical in 9mm.
I've been wanting to buy one since last year.
I went back and forth on deciding if I wanted a 45 or 9mm RIA Tactical.
I stuck with 9mm.
I just can't afford 45 ACP right now, and since these guns are only $425 I can always buy another one in 45ACP in the future.

Already had one little problem with it.
When I stripped it down (my first bushing barrel) it came apart nicely, dripping with oil.
But when I went to put it back together, I couldn't get the spring plug to lock into the bushing.
When I turned the bushing, the plug just wouldn't go up all the way.
So I took it apart and did a little polishing, that fixed it.
It popped right in after that.
Still has little lint on it in the pic.

No big deal..
I'm trying to decide if I want to replace the FLGR with a GI plug type.
Anyway, I like it..
Gives me something to work on..

BTW, that dealer bought my Kimber CDP.
Almost gave me what I wanted for it.
Gave me enough to where it was worth it I wouldn't have to deal with selling it.
Everything worked out at the gunshow today..

Gun looks good and price sounds like it was right. Any plans on changing the grips?
I'm not a big fan of the way those grips look, but it's your gun, not mine.

Looks good 1ll. I've gotta say I am a bit sad that you sold the cdp. That thing was really nice. Oh well, I'm sure someone else will buy it and enjoy it as much as you did. Congrats on the new toys.

But how will they look without front strap chercking?
What color would I get?

Or maybe some black cherry 320s.

Nice RIA man, I hope it runs great for ya like mine does. Can't really beat them for the price. The finish on them sucks but I don't mind that too much. I've pondered getting one of the commander sized RIA lately.

Oh and I'm diggin those black cherry 320's those get my vote.

I have a soft spot in my heart for "Rocks." I think they are great.

I like the cherry grips, fwiw...I think a pair of cherry operators will be going on my Baer...if only to save the cocobolos it came with (and I like them, too!).

As for going to a GI guide rod...I would (and did, on my .45 tactical). I've never been convinced that a FLGR offers any improvement.

I'm intereseted in hearing how it runs for you, 1LL; I could see one of these ending up in my safe...

Wow, I didn't realize they were so affordable. I've always wanted a 1911 but figured it would be way on down the road due to the price tag. I'd also like to hear a range report when you get a chance.

I vote on the black cherry grips too.
