Thinking about my first 1911....Am I wrong for wanting a 9MM?

All my carry guns are 9s ('cept the LCP), and I dislike the 40cal round as a whole.
I owned an XD45 Compact (loved it) at one time but sold it because I couldn't afford to feed it.
Strongly considering my first 1911, everyone should own at least one, right?
Anything wrong with it being a 9mm?
I'm even considering an EMP to get started.

ANY AND ALL comments welcome, however harsh they may be...
I am here to learn...

Thank you...1LL

i have yet to own a 1911, i am up in the air between the .45 and the 9mm, when i buy mine, i will be going for a black stainless springfield model, thats all i have narrowed down, well that and i know which grips i am getting but that is a surprise too!

I like the emp alot, my thought is...
if you go EMP then 9mm
or
fullsize, go big or go home, get a 6" .45 model

Get the EMP 9mm. That is what I'm going to get when I get the extra cash. I did all the reviews and research and havent heard one complaint yet. I am jones'n for it.lol Expect a 9 month wait though according to Springfield as they just responded to one of my emails to them. The EMP is in full production right now but they are all spoken for. You can probably find one on Gunbroker though for the extra $50 transfer fee. Good luck and post back if you do get one.

Nothing wrong with the 9mm EMP......

.....But you'll still have to buy a REAL 1911 someday, and those only come in one flavor:

.45ACP

I'd rock a full size 1911 in 9mm despite all the crap I would get from my wife (9mm is for girls! she says) for the fact that I could shoot it more. I regret buying my .45 because I can't shoot it very often and when I do get ammo, it's 50 rounds at a time. So go get that 9mm and don't regret it.

If I were to buy a 1911 in 9mm, it would have to be an EMP. They look amazing and perform great from what I've read, except for one review where the writer said his gun needed extensive break-in.

I hope to buy a 1911 in .45 someday, maybe even next year, and am leaning toward a Kimber. But it's definitely a "want" and not a "need".

The EMP is a great carry gun.
You only give up a round to the porky sub-compact double stacks.
You get a full grip on the EMP, where on the sub-compacts you have a dangling pinky w/o using the mag extensions.
The EMP is one of Springfields top production guns (the other 2 are the Trophy Match & TRP). My EMP was actually tighter and better fit than my TRP.
1911 trigger > all
The only negative that i have on the EMP is that the extractor was too tight causing FTFeed's every other round. a little tweek to the extractor it was good to go.
Break-in wasn't too long. i always use a slurry of JB Bore paste and oil on the slide for some final lapping. once i adjusted the extractor (after 50rounds) i no longer had problems. I started to carry mine at around 250rds through it.
9mm is a relatively inexpensive round. Skip the .40S&W since it's almost the same price as .45ACP

here's my EMP, when new.

Current. The grips are Larry Davidson's Horned Lizards, 10-8 Trigger and Ed Brown single sided safety.

edit: i also have "real" 1911's there's in the picture thread

You might want to wait till Dan Wesson comes out with a 9mm CBOB this yr right after thanksgiving and right after I get mine..

I've been shooting 1911s for 39yrs and DWs are the best I've ever had by far and you can pay double or more and not get a better gun..
Buy a 9mm DW when you can...you can thank me later..

Thank you all.
Yes I do feel a true 1911 would be 45ACP, but the ammo is so high.
Since I only shoot 9s now I can buy ammo in bulk.

Perhaps in a few years when I have more funds available I'll go for the 45..
I'll look into the Dan Wesson, read a lot of good things about them.
Also have considered the EMP for awhile.
I didn't know I could convert the saftey to one side.
That would be a plus for me.
Looking to keep it around $1K so the EMP would fit the bill there.
I know very little about 1911s.
My biggest fear is buying one and wanting to customize the **** out of costing even me more $$$.
I have an odd obsession about customizing my firearms.
I have another fear of liking them so much I starting selling off current guns to buy more 1911s, much like I sold my Xds to buy Sigs...
Yes, I have issues...
