Need help to diagnose a dented case problem
I've been carrying my Kimber daily for two weeks in Condition 2. Empty chamber, cocked and locked. I'm using a CMC 8rnd powermag+ magazine.
Today I decided to carry it condition 1 and looked at my rounds and found small dents near the rear part of the casing. here's a picture: ![]() anyone knows why or how it got dented? is it caused when loading new rounds? or some internal part of the gun pressing against the case? help!

Do you use some kind of loading tool that may focus pressure on that area? What order were those 3 rounds in the mag, bottom 3 or top 3? They seem to be sequentially deeper which seems like the rim on each case above may be compressing into it, but that would take one helluva mag spring. I can't see another way to cause that kind of mark...

Those were the top 3.
you know what, it could be my UpLuLa causing that dent. I'll go check.

hmm no. it's not the uplula. the UpLuLa (if it causes any dents) will cause on towards the front half of the shell.
I think I found the problem, sometimes when I remove my mags, I see this : ![]() ![]() the top casing's rim is being pressed into the round below. I wonder why the round will strip forward like that.

While not as extreme, I have had a similar problem in the past with CMC, but it appears to stretch into many 8rd mag.
Basically, the spring pressure is too much, and causes the rounds to be pressed hard against the slide. At times the pressure causes a lot of friction and the top round that feeds into the chamber snags the round below causing it to not seat correctly in the mag. With the slide in battery and the round not seated correctly, along with the magazines overpressure, the cases get dented. Worse problems come from the pressure of the round on the slide causing the slide to lose some rearward momentum, and thus not making a full slide cycle, causing a misfeed. Try much better mags like Wilson Combat or Kimber Pro-Tacs, or simply stick to 7rd mags. As for me, I stay with Kimber Pro-Tacs with 7rds, and all my 1911 problems have disappeared.

Magicpie: that sounds like the most logical problem I'm having. I'm using CMC mags which are reputed to be really good. I wonder if this problem plagues all 8 round magazines. I don't have this problem with the 10rnd mags though.
I'll try Wilson Combat mags or the Tripp ones. thanks guys!
