Bushing is all sorts of scratched up, will it break?

this is what I've got on my RIA 1911

heres why, full length guide rod, so the cap on the end of the spring is hollow and only has a 1/32" edge or so to push down on and it ends up having to use a tool to turn the bushing...
do I have a problem or nothing to worry about?

I dont think it will break but you might want to find a better way to depress the cap. Maybe something with electric tape on the end so you dont scratch it all up. Put a 2 piece guide rod or a GI guide rod and you wont have to worry about it anymore.

+1 the 2 piece guide rod makes dissasembly so much easier as well with no tool involved . no i highly doubt it will break from some scratches

You can also use a original style mag with the flat metal plate as a take down tool.

There's a thread on the M1911.org site about drilling a hole through the end of the guide rod, then using a paper clip to take tension off the end, making it easier to turn the bushing.

They also have a tool (sold through Brownells I think) that has a barrel bushing tool on it.

You really don't even need a tool. I do it on my RIA with my thumb all the time.

yocan, it looks like you're using pliers to remove the bushing. Why not use a plastic bushing wrench? You can also remove the takedown pin first and then it will come apart easier. If you're worried about the cosmetics then get a file & sandpaper to remove the gouges. Otherwise if there is slop in the factory bushing spend $20 on an EGW prefit bushing and fit it to the slide/barrel. It took me about an hour to fit one to my Para SSP.
