Upgraded my 1911 desires and looking for all y'alls expert opinions
OK Guys (and Gals), I have upgraded my 1st 1911 desires from this:
To this:
It is going to be quite a bit more than the Taurus, but I really think that it will be worth the extra $$$ and the extra wait.
The best price that I have seen on one of these so far is $1100 has anyone seen them for less? And if so, how much? And where?
Also it seems like they are a bit on the scarce side of things. Anyone know the reason for that?
And lastly, I'd like to know if anyone has this particular model and what they think about it. Opinions also welcome if you have actually seen or handle or shot one of these.
They way things look at the moment it is still going to be down the road a ways before I am actually able to get one, but would love to hear what everyone has to say about it. I've yet to be able to find one locally so that I can fondle it and examine fit, finish and how it feels in my wanton lil hands. So any info would be greatly helpful.
Thanks in advance Y'all,
DonXD40

I think that's an excellent choice, its on my wishlist too. I've handled them a few times in stores but never shot one. I can't imagine it being a problem though because my other three Springfield 1911s (Loaded SS, LW Champion Operator and Black Stainless target) all shoot like a dream.
If you're patient I've seen them go on gunbroker for around $1,000 and less for used ones. There are also some lightweight operators on gunbroker right now for around the same price. The only major difference is the LW has a FLGR and the LW frame. I've handled both side by side and couldn't believe the weight difference. Both weapons had excellent fit and finish and I know that both are more than capable of outshooting me.

Springfield is the only manufacture I've seen that adds a rail system that does not completely mess up the aesthetics of a gun. Does every 1911 maker besides Springfield hate rail attachments? Did kimber throw a party for all modern updates to the 1911 and Picanny got drunk and break a nice lamp?

only problem is finding holsters for a railed 1911. youll have to custom order one and probably get kydex cause the rail tears up leather.

Hmmm...should I buy a PC or a Mac?
As a former FFL 1911 custom gun builder...
FUNCTIONALLY speaking, both the Taurus and the SA are going to be pretty much the same. They both have it where it counts the most: forged major components, very accurate, and very reliable too. Aesthetically though, perhaps the SA (as well as Sig, Kimber, few others) edge out the Taurus which is somewhat rough around the edges (literally!). Some will also indicate that the MIM parts in the Taurus are prone to breakage. Problem though is this applies to other 1911s that use MIM parts...pretty much all of them somwhere in the gun. The thing is, even if you changed the MIM parts in the Taurus with "match grade" parts, it would still be far less expensive than the other more "premium grade" 1911s (as well as theoretically better too with the match grade internal parts).
Bottom line...IMO...you'd be happy with either brand 1911. Depends on what kind of buyer you are. If you buy the Taurus, true to their advertising that you ARE getting a lot of feature for the money, but you will still save about $500 from not buying the SA with fewer features. That's money that could be used for buying many accessories. By far, the consensus is the PT1911 IS considered the best 1911 value on the market these days. On the other hand, if "better" to you means somewhat more refined aesthetics (and maybe somewhat better customer service too), you'd be happier with the SA 1911.

Hmmm...re-reading the OP about "fondling" and "feeling" an SA...definitely an aesthetics shopper as opposed to a functional/practical one!

I think the Taurus' are becoming overpriced.
Also SA has great CS if you need it.

I respectfully disagree. I think that the best "bang for your buck" is Dan Wessons as they come pretty much come very well equipped from the factory (most if not all high grade components components such as wilson Browning etc, No MIM parts for the 2009 production line). All for a low to middle end price. I cannot say more about the slide to frame fit of the DWs that I have seen. My CCO when compared to a Wilson and Les Baer it was a better slide to frame fit. This was done by the gun shop that got my CCO in and wanted to compare because of all the reviews of DWs and he is a wilson guy so he could prove them wrong. He now is now a believer and is looking for a DW CCO frantically (he's a 1911 nut). They also provide great customer service.
I will agree that PT1911 is the best build gun or low end "bang for your buck". Low end SA is a great builder also. The thing that makes the SA more appealing is the customer service. Not only do they fix most things, they give you respect as their customer which seems to be lost now a days.
