Loaded 1911 will feed ball but not hollowpoints

Like the title says, it feeds ball fine most of the time, but if I have a full mag of hollowpoints (and sometimes ball), the top cartridge nosedives and doesn't feed. It does it with two different mags, an 8 round Colt and the 7 round Springer. Any advice?

Also, it may be unrelated, but the slide doesn't always close forward; sometimes it gets hung up 3/4 of the way forward.

Probably need to have the ramp reworked to feed HP ammo. I have a .380 Colt that does the same thing.

try a high quality mag like a Wilson or a McCormick and fluff & buff the feed ramp with jewelers rouge and a dremel with a polishing cone.

Get some Tripp Gen II CobraMags before doing any gunsmithing on it.

For the slide sticking 3/4 of the way...check the extractor tension, sounds like it may be too tight.

My GI will not feed hollow point no matter the mags...

Just needs the ramp to be polished...

Make sure you are slamming the mag all the way in. Mine was doing the same thing with multiple brands and I noticed that when that happened I could hit the bottom of the mag and it would finish loading the round. Now I make sure I slam that mag in when doing mag changes and haven't had any more problems.

Stick with Ball then, cheaper and will kill bg's deader' than shi7. Ball's been good enough for the military.

Ball's great for practice, but for real world applications hollow points are ALWAYS better. More stopping power, less chance of killing your attacker, less likely to over-penetrate and hurt a bystander, etc.

Plus, I paid north of 700 bucks for a gun meant for carry, and it should be able to fire hollow points. My Taurus 1911 could shoot hollow points out of the box, so a Springer should damn well be able to do it.

More than likely magazines.

Wilson, McCormick, Kimber TacPro...I've had great luck with all of these. You need more mags anyway, so get some good ones.

If that doesn't work, then try polishing the feed ramp.

However, I agree--your pistol should feed HP right out of the box; both of my RIA's did, and I would've been quite disappointed if they didn't.
