Lasermax Guide Rod Lasers
What do you guys think about it? except for the super-high price, is it good? anyone has experience with it? I heard it's not as bright as a Crimson Trace.

I prefer Crimson trace. They are brighter, light disperses less (think how you normally see the red dot on tv shows vs how light out of a flashlight and the difference in width between the 2), and well a lot easier to install. Let alone you can easily take them off also if you wish to sell them with no modification to your gun.
The only downside that I view personally about CT grips is that when u have a grip on the gun correctly you cannot turn the laser off. You either have to grip incorrectly or replace the grips. This comes to my mind if you want to practice with just the sights as to not rely on the laser in case it goes bad for w.e reason or even if you want to get a jump on a person without a laser trace leading him back to you or other situations like that.
The guide rod laser you can just hit the take-down and turn it off.

Have/had heard the guide rod lasers aren't that durable from all the recoil loads, etc, when they first came out. Not sure if this has been corrected

I'm going to get one soon for the Beretta 92FS. They have actually been rigorously tested by the military, and they are one of the very few lasers allowed in the military.
I have done a lot of research - and duurability doesn't seem to be an issue. I like my Hogue grips so much, so I do not want to change to laser grips.
I see the "rumor" of durability issues come up whenever anyone asks this question - but the people who bring it up typically have never owned one nor do they have any direct, personal knowledge of a problem.
The most common complaint I have seen about them is issues with the Glock model being accidentally turned on when the gun is being carried in a kydex holster.
I looked into this issue for Berettas - doesn't seem to be an issue. I also contacted Lasermax about this for the Beretta 92 model.

Had one in a G27 and loved it. I tried the CT grips on a Kimber Ultra Carry II, but I kept blocking the laser the way I naturally griped the pistol. This doesn't happen with the guide rod laser. If I had the money, I would have a LaserMax in my XD40SC right now.

I have one of the very first ones for the XD45 and have put a couple of thousand rounds through the pistol since installing it. I haven't had any problems other than replacing the batteries or cleaning it up after a while on the range. I think it is well worth the money but agree it is not cheap...
I just realized that this is the 1911 section of the forum and not the XD area, but my comments still stand. I just wanted to make that distinction...

Thanks for the comments. This is definitely something on my to-buy list. I like how it's hidden and to me, the most natural place to put a laser.
price is hefty though!

yes, it is irritating that the price is so high. The Beretta model costs more than the Glock models too.
