Gunbroker
GunsAmerica
Buds gun shop
Good starting points for researching prices. These are usually much lower than brand name gun shops (Gander, Cabellas etc) slightly lower than Mom & Pop stores (depends on your area) and around or higher than classifieds/gun show FTF transactions.
Let me try to scrounge up an add cause I thought a major dealer had some good 1911 deals. Think it was vance if I remember right. Will get back to you later, dinner time

Bud's Gun Shop is a great place and they have great prices. It is were I buy all of my guns. It helps that they are only a 5 or 20 min drive away depending on whether I go to Lexington or Paris.

Thanks Guy's, Looks like the GI is the low end SA 1911. Correct? and are they hard to find, alot of "out of stock".

Yes they are the low end of SA's line but have heard great thing about them. I would love to give you my own opinion on the GI but I'm still waiting for mine. It does seem like they are hard to find on-line or atleast keep in-stock.

Looks like Springfield Armory GI WWII - .45ACP - 5" - Parkerized (PW9108LP) SGCUSA.com has them for the best price right now and there is only one left.

Since you have a XDM, I would not get a GI<-yep, the base model...hahaha
-Get a loaded, just because of the better sights & beavertail
-If for sure this is a project gun...than go GI, and replace as necessary.
Here is a good site to check on pricing... GalleryofGuns.com - Gun Genie
I bought a couple from them to good experiences

The great thing about base models is u get to customize to your exact specs as you see fit and on your time frame. Birthday coming up, grab some sights do a trigger job etc. They are hard to come by on line but at my local gun show this last weekend I saw 7 GIs (4 private 3 dealer) and a few carrying them (not sure if carrying or selling, I was never the "whatcha got there" person). I personally usually go mid range with a couple options that I would have added on to it for sure. Kinda like when u buy a new computer, you don't want top of the line because you are paying a lot for less of a difference that you might not use; but you don't want the $200 comp sitting in the corner that won't make you overjoyed out of the box. A happy medium is where I like to shop. but again that is just my opinion and you might like thebargain deals that you build up yourself. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
