Magazine compatibility
Question about magazine compatibility. I'm looking at getting a few wilson combat 8 round full size service government/combat magazines. I am wondering if these magazines will work in all my 1911's. A springfield mil spec gi a1, S&W1911, and a WW1 era colt government.

In theory yes. The Wilson 47Ds should work in the Gov't size guns.

I'm still new to the 1911 scene. Officer, commander, government, a1, and there's a type called standard, right? As I understand it, the magazines should be completely interchangeable, excluding the shorter framed officer's model. I've never quite understood exactly what type of 1911 my SW is.

How long is the barrel?
Government - 5"
Commander 4 3/4 to 4"
Officer's 3½"
Commander and Government both have full size grips.
Officer's has a shorter grip.
A1 is a modification the the Original Government. Not sure what "standard" would mean when applied to the 1911.

All 1911 variants will accept and function with full size mags. They will hang out of the Officer's model. Everything else they will have a flush fit.
