Becoming a LEO

I know, another can I do this thread, so I apologize in advance. Here's my basic story, I have 2 misdemeanors for posession of marijuana, both have been expunged and it's been 10 years from the last offense (I'm 34 now). Since then, I finished college, started a family, and have worked as a school teacher for the past 8 years. I never really messed with drugs, but it seemed that each time I touched the stuff I got nailed. I should've learned my lesson the first time; however, I was living in a very hippy-dippy part of northern california at the time. Another strike is that I have 2 full sleeve tattoos (nothing offensive or demeaning or hands, face, neck etc.) I guess that I know on paper, I probably look like a pretty poor candidate. I just wanted an opinion from some of you if this change of careers could really happen, or would I just be spinning my wheels. I'm sure that if the job came down to me or another without any arrests or tattoos, they would give the job to that other person. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Make an appointment with the recruitment officer at the agency (or agencies, each has their own requirements) you want to work for. Talk to him, disclose everything and ask him if you would be wasting your time.

Just be 100% honest. Some departments make exceptions for misdemeanors committed past a certain time frame.
