Bump Firing

Anyone tried this technique to make a semiauto pistol or rifle fire as though an automatic? There are numerous videos on YouTube covering the subject. I just thought I'd let you guys know what the next gun fad you may encounter with a Darwin Award nominee.

Actually I struck up a conversation about it with the family friends who shoot with us, all retired military.
They had never heard of it before, so when we were at the private outdoor range I grabbed a friends AR .223 and showed him, worked quite well, they were very surprised and wanted to learn how I did it.

Bad thing is that he has a weird flash hider, so my left forearm got some powder burn with how many times I did it trying to show them how to.

im actually able to do it with my ruger charger 10/22 and that is alot of fun! i can do it on the ar-15 but i just cant aford to do it anymore. some people find it childish or stupid but i think its fun to do as long as your safe.

ive never tried it with a pistol except my ruger charger. i dont hant my hand that close to the barrel and i dont think it is very safe to do.

I actually tried it with my AR for the first time about a week ago. My first attempts resulted in just two round bursts, but I figured out how to dump mass quantities. It was a lot of fun and my boys enjoyed watching it, but I doubt I'll be doing much of it as I really like aiming and you could sure waste a lot of ammo in a hurry.

Hook a thick rubber band around the trigger, wrap it around the mag well and back to the trigger so it is holding the trigger foreward then try it. It makes the bursts easier to controll.

This method works quite well, IMO better than the pulling it (the AR) into your trigger finger. I don't get to shoot my AR often since I have to keep it in NV so I don't mind the cost of ammo. However, I've noticed when I bump fire my trigger doesn't always reset, and I have to dump the chambered round and go at it again, never been able to run through a full mag.

Do you shoulder fire the AR using this method? Just curious.

I have tried it on my AR-15 and my AK-47 it worked fine on both.
Fun as it is it has nothing on a well placed shot...I try not to practice luck.

I appreciate the replies. I am trying to gauge what my chances my be of running into something like this on the streets. From what I have seen and heard so far it sounds fairly simple to accomplish this method of firing a lot of rounds down range. I understand that bump firing does not come close to a well placed shot however "automatic" fire can be demoralizing to anyone going up against it. Keep the replies coming. I'm going to my department range soon to duplicate the bump firing method. Thanks.
