Pat, One thing I have heard is that some people will twist or turn to keep one or both probes from getting a good contact. I've seen it once and heard from other officers who described the same thing happening. Is that what happened w/ your guy?

Not really it just did not have any effect. Some of the probs were found in the sleves of his shirt. Only one penetrated the clothes and got to skin.

They are already making a fabric that is laid on top of the kevlar in body armor. I just saw an ad for it the APB (American Police Bulletin), I think it was PACA and US Armor were already using it. Shows a picture that the ark will still occur between the electrodes, it just offers it a lesser path of resistance than your body.

Glad you're safe!
We were told the same. Leg shots are recommended for people that have heavy tops on. As far as getting somebody on the move, I wouldnt even take the taser shot anyways. I figure if they are on the move its time to go hands on. I have seen far too many videos, and heard too many stories where a probe was dropped because the officer(s) were running and had bad aim.

During our training we were advised, if you had your Taser out, to initiate a drive stun with the cartridge still in place if you're at hands on range. Although the effect would be localized the thinking is that you can then execute a drive stun somewhere else on the BG's body thereby creating the circuit. This is of course if you're in a situation where you would use the Taser amd its at close range. I haven't had to try it yet so I don't have any first hand knowledge.

I tried that but the subject was too combative and was not able to get a good contact so I went for the spray then went hands on.

I can tell ya what I know (being a Taser instructor).
The new line of cartridges (labeled XP) are supposed to be better at penetrating and staying in bad guys. They are heavier points & longer darts. The cartridges (all of them) use compressed nitrogen to propel the darts out.
The Taser is great, but its not the end-all be-all for police work. If it doesnt work, you need to move on, just like any other tool in your belt, oc, cuffs, baton etc. The drive stun mentioned is also another technique. If you have at least one dart in the bad guy, you can follow up with the drive stun, and it will complete the circuit. If that doesnt work, drop back, reload, use something else etc.
