Class B Certification ?
I was looking at the requirements for the PD at a few of the towns around were I live, and they all say I have to have a Class B Cert. How does one go about getting that? They don't require any college degrees, so this is one way I've thought about taking. Any help would be great!

My question as well....
I think both you as well as the rest of us need some more information before we can give any sort of advice or insight.

Class B drivers license?
Well, in CA you go to the DMV, pick up a commercial drivers handbook, study, take written test and get permit, come back in six moths and take driving test then go get a commercial drivers physical exam. Very similar process to getting a normal class C license. Class B basically means you can drive two axle vehicles up to 46,000lbs (?) GVW.

From what I could find on the internet, a class B is a non-arrest powers class. like what you would have to have to work security at an airport, or armor truck driver. Bigger cities require class A which is an arrest powers class. I plan on going to my local PD as soon as I'm able to get some time, but I've been to busy at work right now.

Okay, now that we have a little more info, it'd help to know what state you're in. This "class B" cert. is probably something state specific. Like how some states recognize POST certification and the like.

OK. I live in SW Missouri. The local website says that you have to have a High School Diploma/GED, and Class B, or be POST Cert., or have a CJ degree. I'm going to try to got there Mon. or so, so hopefully I can get this figured out.

Google your state name along with the word "POST" (Peace Officer Standards and Training). You'll likely find something to explain what you're looking for.

Here in MO a Class B license means your academy doesn't require a physical training section. There are very few departments these days that even allow applicants with a class B license and likewise fewer academies are even offering it.
I would aim for a class A license anyway. Andy |
