Guys no offense but that's lame that you have to fork out your own dough to become better at your job. That's like me asking to go to a training seminar and having to pay for it myself! Bull **** -- you want me to go, you pay for it.
We trust you guys (and gals, anyone?) with our lives. I hope to hell you are a damn good shot and that takes practice. Have these admin/chair molds ever heard of "practice makes perfect?" Well it's your JOB not your HOBBY...they should pay for it!

+1 on that analysis. Like I said - these chair types are 'LEO' only in the sense that they carry a badge. Next thing you know, you'll be carrying a mil-surp side arm - from some 3rd world country......because they got a 'deal' on them.

1. Some calls are not (by policy) calls that I can go blue lights and sirens to, but I think are still important to get to. Such as: people with guns/knives, people attempting suicide, people who have been cut/beaten, etc. All of these are deemed non-emergency calls by our policy. Yes, some guy could be waving a freaking gun in the air in front of your house and I'm supposed to be waiting at every red light on the way to your address. Not my fault, I didn't write the policy. 2. No discounted coffee at Starbucks, but I can usually get a free small coffee at the Circle K. 3. Depends. The other agencies in our county despise us for some reason. 4. No LE discounts on gear, guns, or ammo anywhere in this area. 5. Until some ass writes an e-mail to the precinct commander and you get suspended/reprimanded because they complained about how they saw you spitting in the grass, or speeding, or eating at a restaurant, etc.

I am not a leo but I know that some can get free/discounted rent at apartments for being "security" too. It doesn't look like much fun checking on people fighting/making to much noise and then locking the pool at dark. There are a few restaurants here that give leo discounts.

Well, you guys do a job I wouldn't want to, so hats off to you gentlemen.
I'd do it if I could get on at an agency in a nice neighborhood. Getting shot at in the projects every night would get old fast. Hell, my uncle is former super intendant of Indiana state patrol, and my other unc was a geaorgia trooper. I just never really got bit by the bug I guess. Be safe. |

I'm hopefully going into a LE career and this doesn't really bother me.

My step-brother is a police officer and he gets a certain number of rounds per year for practice but I don't know how many...

we go out once a month and shot a couple hundred rounds each. we have a nice outdoor range w/ a shoot house and what not. also have someone in town that lets us use his indoor range in his basement of his warehouse. works out pretty nice.
